C) ENGINEER'S STATEMENT: The following As -Built Construction Report for the structural integrity of the subject "Basement Egress Window Installation," has been prepared by the staff of PORRAS ENGINEERS & COMPANY under the supervision of the engineer whose signature and seal appears herein. Briefly described the project consists of the installation of a 2'-6"x4'-0" Basement Egress Window, Double Hung Style, with a 60"06"00" deep; Area Well of 6x6 Redwood timbers placed onto the North basement wall of the existing, brick veneer & wood framed, single story, single family home. It is located at an existing window opening between two other egress windows. The subject egress window unit was constructed by excavating the yard along the north basement wall to an approximate depth of 40" into the native soils. Then the existing 30"x14" window and a portion of the rusted, steel frame were removed. Next a nominal 34"W x38"H portion of the existing 8" concrete basement wall was removed by saw -cutting. With this new 30"wide by 36" deep egress window installation, the existing header element was left in place, undisturbed for continued reuse. The existing basement wall's sole plate remains in place, undisturbed as well. Upon removal of the concrete wall materials and the placement of shoring for temporary support of the existing floor framing, a perimeter window frame of 2x8 PT lumber shall be installed onto the sawcut edges at the 2 jambs, sill, and at the top below the existing concrete header. It is recognized the loading at this existing location has not changed and was not altered with the work such that the existing concrete basement wall appears sound, dense and stable for continued service. Our structural review was performed in order to verify the structural integrity of the Egress Window's header. This header element is composed of an undisturbed 8"wide x 8"deep section of the existing basement wall that was left in place by the contractor. It is additionally, reinforced by mobilizing the 2x8, Douglas Fir section, located below the concrete at the top of the frame, thereby providing additional reinforcing for structural support. The header's end reactions are less than the capacity of 6444 lbs as possessed by the 2"x8" PT lumber jambs which act as posts supporting the header with a minimum, 1 I/2" of bearing length provided. The composite window header member and the new 2"x8" Pressure Treated, 42 Douglas Fir, lumber section is of ample capacity to safely support the induced roof, floor, and veneer brick wall loads.
