There are a lot of rumors going around, but no upgrade requirements. In addition, property at 9700 W, 51 st Ave is exempt from those upgrades in two ways: 1, Wheat Ridge is Home Rule and have opted out of the state program; 2. The apartments are 3 floors or less which makes them exempt to upgrading per the state. He stated that DRCOG can make "recommendations", but cannot require them to make upgrades. The city, DRCOG or the elevator company can have the elevators shut off if they are "unsafe." As of right now, the property owner is only required "to keep the status quo on the property as it currently is." He stated it is to his (the owners) benefit and his property to keep the elevators running as they currently are for his current/future tenants/customers.
