The framing shown on the structural drawings, including at the basement, was all in place. In addition, a new beam had been installed at the ridge of the kitchen ceiling and an existing beam in the same area had been strengthened, all in accordance with my earlier recommendations. The need for these beams had become apparent during demolition. The main ridge beam is composed of 4 — 1 3/4" x 18" micro -lams, and is properly in place. Although mistakenly shown in the calculations as 5 micro -lams, the drawing details showing 4 micro -lams are correct. A crack in the concrete basement wall had been observed earlier. It is believed to have been caused by settlement of the front wall of the house at a time when poor drainage had caused the soil to become saturated. With the drainage corrected, it is believed that the wall has stabilized. It is recommended that the crack be patched with non -shrink grout. At the basement, it was determined that a 12 inch thick footing occurs where it was initially thought a new footing would be required to support a beam. This existing footing is sufficient to support the beam load.
