We examined the attic to see the roof sup- ports, the house for existing drywall cracks or other evidence of movement and the exterior to see if there were large deposits of leaves and other material that accumulate in the valleys. There are always areas that are not observable and we attempted to determine the framing method in those locations. Please note, anytime you reroof there is a rapid change of loading as the old roof is removed and the new roof installed. This change in loading, movement of materials and men, and the pounding that occurs, can cause small drywall cracks. These are not structural. If you ob- serve any cracking, please call our office so we can make sure that there is nothing else that may have occurred. There was no significant storage in the attic space. It is assumed that no additional storage will be done in the attic. Loading the bottom chord of trusses can change their behavior. The majority of rafters are 2x8. In the upper attic they are on 24" centers but the spans are all relatively short. Over the entry and in the garage are the longest spans. Using the information we collected we were able to model the supports system in your garage. That model looks like this: 116.648 % 90001b C - 89.9574 % ~ t The deflection is allowed to be 1.5" as there is no ceiling in this space. The predicted de- flection is 1.17" This is acceptable. The main entry is the other location that has long spans. The model is shown below. The de- flection is predicted to be 0.66 inches; the allowed for a plaster ceiling is 0.72" . The pre- dicted is less than the code allowed deflection and the bending moment is only 53% of the al- lowed limit. This framing is acceptable. The entry outside the front door was not observable. A portion of the entry roof overlaps this entry. The entry is assumed to be 2x8s as that is the framing lumber used throughout the balance of the house.
