NMHERSTAVE. ENGLEWOOD, CO 8011.3 Site Conditions: 421 F, Framing observed in roof access and in basement at exposed framing. (720) 612-2444 On April 29th, 2019 Majick Engineering provided a structural site observation at the request of Denise Hammond of The Hammond Home Team at the single-family residence located at 3590 Moore Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033. The purpose of the site observation was to visually observe the current condition of the existing structure and determine roof framing system capabilities. This letter is in regard to the existing truss, based on RISA 3D analysis. The following are the proposed changes to the existing framing: 1. Removal of center interior wall at several locations to provide open concept. Structural Observations: • The single-family single -floor residence with a full basement was built in 1949. The existing structure was observed to be in good condition. • The roof framing was observed through access provided in the hallway. The existing roof framing was observed to be framed trusses. Each connection of truss members was observed to consist of (2) %: inch sheathing. Based on the attachment, the truss was analyzed as a truss system. The truss members and connection were analyzed using current load and minimum code requirements. Based on condition of trusses and framed construction, it was assumed that all members consist of Doug -Fir #2. The connections were assumed to be 10d common nails. • The first -floor framing was observed in the full basement. The floor framing consisted of 2x10 sawn lumber spaced at 16 inches on center. The floor framing was supported at the perimeter foundation and center wood wall. • The interior walls were observed to be 2x4s at 16 inches on center. The exterior walls were assumed to be 2x4 at 16 inches on center with brick veneer siding. It was assumed that the exterior walls were designed to support the full roof load, assuming that the truss spans exterior wall to exterior wall. • The existing foundation was observed to consist of cast -in-place concrete assumed to be unreinforced. The footings could not be observed but were assumed to be supported on a shallow footing system. The foundation was observed to be in good condition. Minor hairline cracks were observed at 1 basement window, but were hairline and not a structural concern. Design Criteria: • 1 RC 2012 Design Loads: • Ground Snow Load = 30 psf • Roof Snow Load = 30 psf • Roof Dead Load = 15 psf Wind Load = 135 mph (Ultimate) Exjgp, lure = 0. C (Trees/Shrubs/Adjacent stru res of similar height) %of what Ridnt Structural Summary: Revision- June 181h, 2019: Majick Engineering was contacted by the contractor and told that during the field verification process the members described as sheathing were 1x number and nails used for connections were determined to be 16d nails. Both of the field verified changes increased the connection capacity and therefore require less nails for the superimposed loading. The structural letter has been updated with the new information provided by the contractor's field verification. All revision connections and members have been bolded to provide clarification on changes to the original structural letter. The existing truss was analyzed as a 2D trussing system using Risa 3D analysis software. The truss members were assumed to be Doug -Fir #1, Fb = 1000 psi, Ft = 675 psi, F,1= 625 psi, Emin= 620000 psi, G = .5, Dowel Bearing Strength 1x lumber = 4650 psi, Bearing Strength Main Member = 4650 psi. Based on the splice connection of the bottom chord, the bottom chord was modeled as fix allowing for the transfer of moment force across the splice. The members were field verified by the contractor to be connected with 16d nails. Based on the Risa 3D analysis, all of the truss members under combined loading, meet strength and serviceability requirements. The top and bottom chord were determined to have a .8 combined loading factor. The intermediate members were determined to have .2 demand/capacity ratio. The intermediate members were all determined to have significant reserve capacity. During the site observation several connections were observed, all with nailed connections. Due to the space, an accurate count of nails proved difficult. Therefore, all of the connections have been field verified by the contractor. The connections of the vertical (2) 1x6 members was observed to be (4) 16d nails and determined to be adequate for the imposed load. The diagonal 2x4 chords member connection were observed to be (5) 16d nails, which was determined adequate for the imposed loads. The bottom connection could not be observed due to insulation and space available. Truss connection requires field verification to ensure that connection is adequate for the imposed loads. The bottom chord at the 2x4 splice was determined to be inadequate to transfer the tension load, based on the (5) 16d nails counted. Due to the inadequate connection capacity, it is recommended that a Simpson LSTA36 Strap be installed on the bottom chord centered on the splice per the attached detail. The strap shall reinforce the bottom chord to transfer the imposed tension load. Reference attached details and Appendix A for additional truss and material information. In the opinion of Majick Engineering, the existing trusses at 3590 Moore Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033 are adequate to span exterior wall to exterior wall with the recommendation provided above and does not negatively impact the structural integrity of the existing structure. The above is based upon: • Site visit with limited visual observations performed on April 29t'', 2019. • No destructive or non-destructive testing was performed. Majick Engineering is not liable for any hidden deficiencies that lead to failure or any incurred damage. Majick Engineering shall not be liable for any information provided by the contractor that is inaccurate. • Conclusions and recommendations are based on accepted industry standards and no warranty is either expressed or implied as to continued structural integrity of the property. • Recommendations and dimensions based on visual observations and field measurements. • Geotechnical design information and foundation information were not provided; therefore, Majick Engineering does not take liability for structural failure, out of plane displacement, damage due to settlement or foundation failure. • Opinions stated in this letter are subject to change if conditions, accessibility, or visibility from time of inspection change or if additional information becomes available for consideration. For any questions or concerns please contact Majick Engineering, LLC at 720-612-2444. Thank you, Ian McQuade, P.E., S.E. MaEis ENGINEERING Client: Denise Hammond c/o The Hammond Home Team From: Majick Engineering, LLC Date: May 6th, 2019 Address: 3590 Moore Street Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033 Subject: Existing Truss analysis oR,OI:i"D 61ill 630 E. NMHERSTAVE. ENGLEWOOD, CO 8011_3 (720) 612-2444 Site Conditions: 42° F, Framing observed in roof access and in basement at exposed framing. On April 29th, 2019 Majick Engineering provided a structural site observation at the request of Denise Hammond of The Hammond Home Team at the single-family residence located at 3590 Moore Street, Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033. Structural Observo tions: • The single-family single -floor residence with a full basement was built in 1949. The existing structure was observed to be in good condition. • The roof framing was observed through access provided in the hallway. The existing roof framing was observed to be framed trusses. Each connection of truss members was observed to consist of (2) X inch sheathing. Design Criteria: • IRC 2012 Design Loads: • Ground Snow Load = 30 psf • Roof Snow Load = 30 psf • Roof Dead Load = 15 psf Wind Load = 135 mph (Ultimate) Exposure = C (Trees/Shrubs/Adjacent structures of similar height) C1 %or Wheat Rage Structural Summary: The existing truss was analyzed as a 2D trussing system using Risa 3D analysis software. The truss members were assumed to be Doug -Fir #1, Fb = 1000 psi, Ft = 675 psi, Fc,i= 625 psi, Emlr,= 620000 psi, G = .5, Dowel Bearing Strength Sheathing = 3350 psi, Bearing Strength Main Member = 4650 psi. Based on the splice connection of the bottom chord, the bottom chord was modeled as fix allowing for the transfer of moment force across the splice. The members were assumed to be connected with 10d nails. Therefore, all of the connections shall be field verified. The connections of the vertical (2) % inch sheathing members was observed to be (5) 10d nails and determined to be adequate for the imposed load. The diagonal 2x4 chords member connection were observed to be (7) 10d nails, which was determined adequate for the imposed loads. The bottom connection could not be observed due to insulation and space available. Truss connection requires field verification to ensure that connection is adequate for the imposed loads. The bottom chord at the 2x4 splice was determined to be inadequate to transfer the tension load, based on the (7) 10d nails counted. The above is based upon: • Site visit with limited visual observations performed on April 2911, 2019. • No destructive or non-destructive testing was performed. Majick Engineering is not liable for any hidden deficiencies that lead to failure or any incurred damage. If lead is present within paint on building components above the action level, any activity impacting these components must be conducted using "lead safe" work practices and RRP Certified contractors. As of March 26, 2014, the EPA has instituted new guidelines and regulations for the failure of firms to follow RRP engineering controls, or when remodeling projects are done by individuals or firms that do not have proper RRP training and certification. When it is suspected that a lead hazard has been created, EPA will require an inspection, including wipe samples. If the results of the inspection determine that a lead hazard has been created the follow steps will be conducted: ■ The site will be considered lead -contaminated and RRP standards and practices will no longer apply, ■ Both the EPA and the CDPHE Lead Unit have determined that clean-up is now defined as a lead abatement project; ■ Regulation 19 standards will be required to be followed in order to properly clean- tip the lead hazards: - A state certified abatement firm and individuals will be required to conduct the clean-up - The firm will need to apply for a permit and follow all requirements of Regulation No. 19, Part A, Section V, Abatement - A state -certified firm and individual will be required to conduct project clearances, sampling and provide the CDPHE Lead Unit with copies of those reports. Colorado Air Quality Control Commission Regulation 19, Part A, states: ■ Lead-based paint hazard means any condition that causes exposure to lead from lead -contaminated dust, lead - contaminated soil, or lead-based paint. Lead-based paint hazard also means hazardous lead-based paint, dust -lead hazard or soil -lead hazard. &0 INSPECTION PPAYfOCOL The inspection and assessment were performed in accordance with EPA/AHERA procedures. These procedures call for the visual inspection of all areas of coneern including collection and analysis of representative bulk samples of suspect material. Random bulk samples, representative of the suspect ACM of each HA, were collected according to the guidelines published as EPA Final Rule: Title II of the Toxic Substances Control Act, 15 USC, Sections 2641 through 2654 and in compliance with 40 CFR, Part 763. Representative sampling is based on the following criteria: • The distribution of the suspect material throughout the HA, • The suspect materials physical characteristics and application, Random sampling patterns determined for each HA. 4.0 SAMPLING PROCEDURES Suspect materals alike in appearance and application were sampled as HAs. Those sampled suspect materials are then subeategoiized into one of three classifications: 511, TSlor hill AEC collected surfacing materials by types of texture. Not every room with each texture may have been tested; however, it is assumed to be positive if it has the same texture as the above -referenced types. AEC uses dr`-wallschooLcom/textures to determine the texture label comparisons. For TSI materials, AEC uses images through Google for comparison when naming material types. 1VIMs are named based on the material they are as seen by the accredited inspector during the on-site inspection. AEC collected at least the minimum number of samples from each HA necessary to meet all regulatory requirements for the quantity of material to be disturbed. The quantities listed in this report are approximate and on-site verification of the exact quantity of each material is required. 5.0 ASSESSMENT OF MATERIALS Condition assessments were performed by the accredited AEC inspector(s) at the time of inspection. Condition assessments include ratings of "G", "D", or "SD" per each HA and are meant to indicate the overall condition of each material Accumulation of powder, dust or debris similar in appearance to the suspect material on surfaces beneath the material can be used as confirmatory evidence when determining the material condition assessments of G, D or SD. All suspect materials were divided into For AFcategories at time of sampling as conducted by hand touch and feel when performed by the inspector(s) during the on-site inspection. After classifying each F ACM(s), the AEC inspector(s) gives each ILA material a. hazard rating (HR). There are seven (7) different IRs that each material is subcategorized into if the material is deemed F. The following seven (7) numbers are associated with each HR: 1.) "D" or "SD" thermal systems insulation ACM 2.) "D" friable surfacing ACM 3.) "SD" friable surfacing ACM. 4.) "D" or "SD" friable miscellaneous ACM 5.) ACM with potential for "D" 6.) ACM with potential for "SD" 7.) Any remaining friable ACM or friable suspect ACM The certified asbestos inspector(s) must provide a written assessment of the condition of all known or assumed ACM. These assessments are to include specifying: the types of damage, the severity of damage, the extent of the spread of the damage over each material, the material's potential for disturbance, the known or suspected causes of the damage, any preventive measures that may eliminate the likelihood of the damaged material from becoming a significantly damaged material, and whether the material is accessible; all over the HA. If an ACM is SD and greater than Colorado Regulation No. 8 trigger levels, then the area(s) are deemed a, major spill. If the materials are less than the trigger levels but greater than 3 SF or 3 LF, then the area(s) are deemed a minor spill. See the spill response sections as outlined below (Section 10.0). 6.0 SITE DESCRIPTION AND PROJECT DETAILS The above referenced property is a, single-family residential dwelling. AEC research indicates that the building was constructed in 1957. Destructive sampling was conducted on the materials planned to be disturbed at the above referenced property. The asbestos survey was conducted by the above referenced CD PHE and AHERA certified asbestos building inspector. Samples were submitted to Aerobiology and Associates laboratory for PLM analysis to identify asbestos content, The samples were requested on a rush turnaround time for results. 7.0 LABORATORY ANALYSIS AND RESULTS Bulk samples collected were analyzed utilizing the EPA's Method for the Determination of Asbestos in 0lk Buil Materials(EPA 600/R./116, Jul`, 1993) and the 1\icCrone Research Institute's The Asbestos Particle Atlas hod references. Colorado Regulation No. 8 requires a project design in with the amount of ACM to beabated exceeds 1,000 LF on pipes, or 3,000 SF on other surfaces and an asbestos project manager if the amount of F ACAI to be abated exceeds 1,000 LF on pipes or 3,000 SF on other surfaces. AEC is able to develop a project design and/or perform project manager services for this project for an additional fee. AEC recommends that when ACM is removed/abated, that only a licensed asbestos abatement contractor using personnel trained in the handling of ACM be allowed to conduct such activities using appropriate methods (NEPA-filtered vacuuming, wet cleaning methods, respiratory protection, protective clothing, personnel decontamination, negative -air enclosures, air monitoring, etc.). For all spills, AEC recommends that all soft goods (carpet, pad, clothes, couches, etc.) and any ceiling and/or wall surfacing restoration activities be removed from the interior of the building as asbestos waste. AEC also advises that only hard surfaces (plastic, metal, wood, concrete, etc.) are allowed to be left in place before the final visual and final air clearance tests are completed. AEC urges that electronics and appliances (refrigerators, air conditioners, DVD players, microwaves, toasters, etc.) are removed due to the mechanical openings and working parts that make it difficult to clean thoroughly. CbmpAsneo Spwifim — OSSA Re9aMozw 29 CM 106 Class I asbestos work — defined by OSHA as activities involving the removal of Asbestos Containing Materials which are TSI or surfacing material. Class H asbestos work — defined by OSHA as activities involving the removal of ACM which is not TSI or SNL Class III asbestos work — defined by OSHA as repair and maintenance operations, where ACM TSI or SM is likely to be disturbed. OSHA requires the following (at. a minimum, the contractor should thoroughly review regulation): 1. Establishment of a regulated work area: minimizes access to unauthorized personnel, protects persons outside from airborne asbestos exposure and requires the use of respirators inside of the regulated area (essentially a HEPA filtered negative air pressure containment area). 2. Supervision of the removal work by a competent person an EPA trained asbestos abatement supervisor. 3. Workersbandling ACM shall be properly trainer]: training requirements as stipulated in OSHA regulations specify a minimum of eight hours (8 hr.) training of required topics. Material and hands-on training more closely fits the EPA Operations and Maintenance Worker sixteen -hour (16 hr.) class. 4. Exposure monitoring of personnel: both eight hour (8 hr.) TWA (time weighted average) and STEL (short term exposure limit). This monitoring will ensure that personnel are wearing adequate respiratory protection. 5. Proper use of engineering controls: namely, wet methods to control airborne asbestos filters, prompt clean up and disposal of debris in leak tight containers, removal of material in an intact state (prohibited use of high speed abrasive disc saws without HEPA filtered exhaust, prohibited arse of compressed air on ACMs, prohibited by dry sweeping, shoveling or other dry clean-up methods). 6. Removal of ACK in an intact state to the extent feasible. 7. If using cutting machines, they shall be continuously misted: during use, unless a competent person determines that misting decreases worker safety. Dust generated b} a power cutter shall be collected by a HEPA vacuum. 8. Asbestos containing material from a roof must be either hand carried: or lowered to the ground by crane, hoist or in a dust4ight chute. 9. All waste shall be either wrapped an"r placed into a closed receptacle: in such manner so as to preclude the dispersion of dust. 10. If working on a roof. roof level heating and ventilation air intake sources shall be isolated (sealed) or the ventilation system shut down. Other Requirements ■ Other appropriate PPE as necessary ■ Implementation of a Respiratory Protection Program (if necessary) ■ Respirator physical exam for personnel (if issued negative pressure respirator) AEC Recommends a final visual and final air clearance monitoring after the material has been removed. 0 12.0 COLORADO DEMOLITION AGTIPI7_`II,;S Section IH.A.3 — Ani- asbestos -containing material that is friable or will be made friable during demolition activities in any area, of public access or non-public access area must be removed prior to demolition.
