Soil exposed on the bottom consisted of medium dense clayey sand, except for the east 1/3 where old fill was exposed. The old fill appears to only be a few inches thick and should be removed. The exposed soil was similar to that encountered in our borings. In our opinion the house may be founded on Type 4 foundation, consisting of spread footings designed for a maximum soil pressure of 2,500 psf and a minimum dead load pressure of 800 psf. The old fill should be removed and footings should be placed on undisturbed natural soil. The other recommendations in our report 296 131, dated August 30, 1996, also should be observed.
