Dig 18" diameter (min.) x 42" deep hole for columns and setting blocks (by owner-min. size 16" diameter x 6" thick). Note: Due to extremes in weather and soil coditions hole size may have to be increased to meet local conditions and/or codes. See Sheet #1. Use line for column location. Step 2: Rafter assembly: Make a jig as shown of sheet #9 Rafter Jig. Use plywood or other material for the base and 2 x 4 blocks. Inside blocking must be movable to accept special rafter assembly. See sheet #9 for types of rafters. Mix glue with Luke warm water to thickness of cream. Apply glue to rafter and gussets. When gussets are nailed in place (#6D cement coated) glue should ooze out from around the joint. Raise the peak of rafter assembly and repeat gluing and nailing of other side, except special end rafter, gussets are on inside only. See sheet #9. Store flat for at least 24 hours. Step 3: Mark 4 x 6 x 10' columns from bottom up 3'. Step 4: Place 4 x 6 x 10' column in each hole and inside of line (12' outside of columns-end). Center interior columns 6' on center-side of shelter. Align and plumb column, fill with dirt to within about 8" of finished floor line and tamp down. Note: Use transit to set hole depths. Top of columns must be level and square. See sheet #1, 3 and 4. Bracing may be required to hold columns in place until final erection is completed. Step 5: Measure down from top of column 11~" and mark outside of each of the columns. See Sheet #6. Step 6: Place 2 x 4 x 14 3/4" above line with square end at top, keeping even on sides and on line at the bottom. Nail iwth #16D cement coated spikes. See sheet #6. LTC!-IFrELD _ jNDUSTRtES, JNC.
