Quince Street, Suite F Denver, CO 80231 Re: Structural Engineering Review Report Project: Smith Residence 4550 Upham Street Wheatridge, CO 80033 Dear Mr. Bunge, Per your request our office has reviewed the roof structural framing for the above listed residence to determine if the existing structure can support a new solar PV array. Our analysis is based upon a site observation conducted by Christian Graham with CAM Solar. Design criteria: • 2018 IRC & ASCE 7-16 • Roof design snow load = 30 psf (non-reducible) • Ground design snow load = 30psf (non-reducible) • Wind load = basic wind speed of 135 MPH (3 -second gust) Vult at exposure C. • Roof structural framing = 2x6 Wood Roof Rafters spaced @ 24" o.c. (assumed Hem Fir No. 2). Rafter upgrade requirements: Attach a single 2x6 sister member to the existing roof rafters for horizontal spans greater than 9'-7". The sister member may be 2'-0" less than the existing member for ease of installation. Connect the new sister member to the existing with (2) rows of 10d nails spaced @ 6" o.c. & (2) 3/8" beads of construction adhesive for the full length. Do not stagger standoffs and sister joists that receive standoffs. Roofing material consists of composite shingles. Solar racking system = Ironridge XR10 (The approval of the rail design loads has been performed by others) with Ironridge 6105-T5 aluminum L -Feet spaced at 4'-0" on center. Provide one 5/16" x 3 1/2" stainless steel lag screw (2.33" minimum embed at trusses, 1.5" minimum penetration at hip conditions with sleepers) stainless steel lag scri T foot. The capacity of the roof structural framing to support the additional gravity loads imposed by the solar racking system and modules has been reviewed in accordance with ASCE 7-16 and code reference above. The capacity of the solar racking system and connections to resist the wind and gravity loads has been reviewed in accordance with ASCE 7-16 and code reference above. We have determined by analysis that the existing structure is capable of supporting the code required dead and live loads with the addition of the new solar array. No modifications to the existing structure are required. This report should not be considered a warranty or guarantee, implied or expressed, of the house in general, the building superstructure, or the foundation system. Structures and foundation systems may be severely impacted by changes in climate, land -use, etc, and the conclusions presented in this report are based on conditions noted during the Solar field audits. Our analysis of the roof structure is also based on no further dead load (besides the referenced solar addition - i.e. additional layers of shingles, mechanical attachments, structural sheathing, etc.) being added to the roof structure at any time during the lifespan of the structure. Our analysis also assumes that connections that were hidden from view during site audits have been made in accordance with the requirements of the 2018 IRC.
