R2 Analytical project number R216-226-1. Dear Ms. Dougovito, The Scope of Work for this project included a visual /tactile inspection, sample collection and analysis of suspect ACM and sampling surfaces of suspect LBP to support the planned remodel and renovation of the 2nd floor exterior East wall /Bedroom and work area and 15` floor Bedroom ceiling. This Scope of Work was performed by Mr. Robert Ragan of R2 Analytical an EPA and State of Colorado Certified Asbestos Building Inspector #3134. Inspecting Sampling Scope of Work: • Perform visual, tactile inspection of suspect ACM & LBP. • Identify, locate and areas to be sampled or presumed ACM & LBP • Provide laboratory analysis of ACM and LBP samples • Provide project report with laboratory results and conclusions Methodolo2y Field Work: The ACM and LBP construction specific survey was completed in general accordance with Colorado Regulation 8 Part B, Colorado Regulation 19, EPA National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPS) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) regulation 29 CFR 1926.1101. A material is considered to be asbestos -containing material (ACM) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), if at least one sample collected from the homogenous material has asbestos present in a concentration greater than one percent (>1 %). Paint is considered to be LPB by the EPA and CDPHE if it contains 0.5% lead by weight. Homogeneous Area divisions Suspect ACM were grouped into homogeneous areas based on physical characteristics and functional application. Homogeneous areas were divided into one of three categories based on as designated by Colorado Regulation 8 and the EPA. 1. Thermal systems insulation — (TSI) Insulations to control thermal conductivity pipe/ duct wrap, boiler & chiller insulations and tanks etc. 2. Surfacing material — Sprayed —on or troweled onto structural members or walls (i.e. fire -proofing on structural steel or drywall finishes) 3. Miscellaneous — Remaining suspect materials (i.e. flooring, gaskets, shingles, ceiling tiles fixtures etc.) Sampling was conducted per Colorado Regulation 8 protocol, specifying the minimum collection of. • 3 samples of surfacing materials less than 1,000 square feet in size. • 5 samples of surfacing materials between 1,000 and 5,000 square feet in size; and • 7 samples of surfacing materials greater than 5,000 square feet in size. Colorado Regulation 8 and the EPA define asbestos containing material (ACM) as material that contains greater than one -percent asbestos. Building materials that contain trace (less than 1%) asbestos are not regulated by the State of Colorado or the US EPA. OSHA regulations for worker protection do apply to trace asbestos containing materials and appropriate measures should be used by contractors during demolition activities. Paint is considered to be LPB by the EPA and CDPHE if it contains 0.5% lead by weight. All samples were submitted to Reservoirs Environmental, Inc., under proper chain -of -custody procedures. Reservoirs Environmental, Inc. participates in the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). Analysis of the suspect asbestos Bulk sample building materials was performed by polarized light microscopy (PLM) according to EPA 600/R/116, July 1993 methodology. Suspect LBP samples were were analyzed by Atomic Absorption (AA). Both Laboratories participate in the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). ACM Sample Findings and Conclusions Inspection determined the following building materials were identified as suspect ACM; • Homogeneous area A — Exterior Stucco Siding • Homogeneous area B — Asphalt shingle & rolled roofing • Homogeneous area C — Textured Drywall A total of nine (9) suspect ACM Samples were collected were collected from the three (3) Homogeneous areas laboratory analysis detected no asbestos. Refer to Table #1 for sample description & locations and the attached RES Report 366228- 1 for Laboratory Analysis of ACM LBP Sample Findings and Conclusions Paint samples were analyzed from surfaces from each Homogeneous area that will be impacted by demolition activities. Painted surfaces are considered to be LPB by the EPA and CDPHE if the paint contains 0.5% lead by weight. No LBP was detected by Laboratory analysis in the samples of paint Refer to Table #2 for sample description & locations and the attached REI # 366228-2 for Laboratory Analysis of LBP *It should be noted building materials not previously analyzed at 2690 Teller Street, Wheat Ridge CO must be assumed asbestos, until tested and proven otherwise. Any material not identified that will be impacted by future renovation /remodel activities should be removed in accordance with the State of Colorado Regulation 8 Part B and OSHA.
