Translations available: http://www.owenscorning.com/emailfooter.html I REQUIRED INSTALLATION MATERIALS • Bags of AttiCat° Blown -in PINK Fiberglas" Insulation (calculate number of bags needed using formula in Project Planning brochure) • AttiCat° machine and 150 -foot hose assembly • Extension cord (three -conductor, grounded, 14 -gauge, 15 -amp) • Drop cloths • Eave or soffit ventilation bafflin material, such as Owens Corning's'" raft -R -matey attic vents • Cardboard or metal baffling JOB PKEHAKAI ION • Protective clothing and equipment, including a properly fitted NIOSH or MSHA approved disposable dust respirator (such as 3M Model 8210, Model 8271 for high -humidity environments, or equivalent), gloves, goggles, and a long - sleeve shirt and pants • Knife to cut insulation bags • AttiCate rulers and a marking pen Staple gun Lighting and a ladder to safely access attic Examine your attic to be sure it is adequately ventilated. Owens Corning recommends a minimum of I square foot of venting for every 150 square feet of space to be insulated. Install a rigid barrier around the attic access opening to prevent insulation from falling out when you open the attic door (Owens Corning" FanFold Foam Residing Board; FOAMULAR°, INSULPINK°, or PROPINK° Foam Insulation Board; or equivalent). Be sure the barrier is taller than the thickness of the insulation you plan to install. Inspect any duct work in the attic and make sure all connections are sound. If necessary, seal duct joints prior to installing insulation. • Place the AttiCatc machine outside of your house or in your garage. • Lay drop cloths in the house along the path of the hose to protect floors and other surfaces. • Run the hose into the attic. Extend enough hose to reach the furthest point in the attic. NOTE: AttiCat° machine shoots insulation a distance of approximately 8 to 10 feet. • The AttiCat° system works best with two people—one in the attic installing and the other operating the machine. CAUTIONS • Do not block eave venting (soffit vents) with insulation. Use vent baffles such as Owens Corning'" raft -R -mate° attic vents (or equivalent) between eave vents and attic to ensure air flow. • When working in the attic, walk only on the ceiling rafters or joists and not on the ceiling. Be careful of overhead obstructions and nails penetrating through the roof deck. • Maintain a minimum clearance of 3" around any heat - generating sources (lights, flues, etc.) in the attic. If a light fixture is labeled IC -rated, it is safe to lay insulation over it. A WARNINGS • KEEP HANDS AND TOOLS AWAY FROM ANY MOVING PARTS. • DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE ATTICAT° MACHINE OR HOSE UNTIL MACHINE IS COMPLETELY OFF AND EXTENSION CORD IS DISCONNECTED. • NEVER OPERATE THE ATTICAT° MACHINE IF IT OR THE OPERATOR IS STANDING IN WATER. SERIOUS INJURY MAY RESULT. Owens Coming shall not be responsible for any injury, damage, loss, cost e)pence, or liability relating to failure to follow these instructions. Failure to follow these insulation instructions may affect Owens Coming's obligations under this product's limited warranty AT THE MACHINE (PERSON #1) JAssemble machine. Cut bags in half. 1 Run hose to attic. 2 • Plug extension cord into AttiCat® machine; connect to a standard 110 V electrical outlet. Red light on machine will illuminate. • Connect hose to machine. • When ready for the flow of insulation, your assistant in the attic will press the START button on the remote. This will illuminate the green start button on machine; press it to start flow of insulation. NOTE: AttiCat® machine will not operate unless START button is pressed on the remote. Using the remote, your assistant may also stop the machine while in the attic at any time. • Using a knife, cut bag of insulation along cut line. Break package in half; machine's feeder is specifically designed to accommodate a half - bag of AttiCat® PINK Fiberglas® Blown -in Insulation. INl Tl,1F ,a-rTl(_- (r'FRSON #2) • Hold the half -bag by end flaps and insert cut end into machine. Push half -bag completely into feeder until it stops. The built-in Autocutter will cut plastic packaging thereby releasing insulation into the machine. Packaging should be easy to remove. • Remove packaging from machine. IMPORTANT: Packaging may clog machine and should be removed once half -bag has released. • Do NOT attempt to forcefully push or hand -feed loose insulation down into machine. • Add another half -bag of insulation once the machine feeder has emptied and the agitator paddles can be seen through window. • Using a staple gun, install AttiCat® rulers on joists, roof trusses, or vertical framing to determine how much insulation you need to add. Install one per every 300ftl/28m' so that they are clearly visible. • Install cardboard or metal baffling around heat -generating sources such as can lights or flues/metal chimneys; keep cardboard and insulation at least 3" from heat sources. The purpose of our site visit was to determine what is required to remove the wall between the kitchen and the living room. The wall between the kitchen and living room supports the roof rafters and ceiling rafters. In order to remove this wall, a new beam will need to be installed. The beam is to be (2) 13/4" x 111/4" LVL's. The maximum clear span for the new beam is 12'-0". The new beam shall bear on a double 2x4 stud pack on the north end and on the CMU bearing wall on the south end. Connect both ends of the beam to the existing plate with Simpson LPC4Z clips The ceiling rafters are to be cut and supported flush with the bottom of the new LVL beam. The ceiling rafters are to be connected to new beam with Simpson LUS26 hangers. Modify the existing roof kickers to bear on the new LVL beam. Verify there is a double 2x4 stud pack beneath the new post on the north end of the new beam and the foundation at the basement level. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Final Clearance Air Sampling: Once an area has passed a final visual inspectionand no dust or debris have been found, the certified A11IS shall collect final clearance air samples from the work arca, prior to teardown of the containment structure. Final Clearance Criteria: An abatement action shall he considered complete when the average concentration of asbestos of five air samples collected within the abatement work area and analyzed by the TEM method is does not exceed the filter background level of seventy (70) SAINT' or the laborator,v may analyze air monitoring samples collected for clearance purlxrses by PCM. Analysis of each these samples must shoe airborne asbestos fiber concentrations of less than or equal to 0.010 f1cc. If concentrations exceed this limit, the a,batenwnt contractor must re -clean the work area and a, second set of final clearance air samples must be collected and anal zed. This process is repeated until the analytical results of the final clearance air samples meet the regula.tor;y standard. Only upon successful completion of the final clearance air monitoring process uray an asbestos abatement prgject be considered complete, and teardown of the containment structure can commence. Final Visual Inspection: At the conclusion of any abatement action and with only critical barriers still in place, a certified AMS, who is indelwndent of the UAC, shall visuall' inspect cach work area where such action was conducted, and behind critical barriers, to determine whether all dust and debris has been removed. City of Wheal Ridge LO INTRODUCTION Advanced Environmental Consulting, LLC' (AEC) was retained to perform industrial hygiene services related to post - asbestos abatement work area/containment visual and air monitoring services and, I'C11I laboratory analysis at the above - referenced location. The asbestos air clearance was conducted by D the above rerownced C'PIIE and AIIERA evilified AMS. AFC is a CDPHE certified Asbestos Consulting Firm (Certification Number 2118x4). 2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION AND PROJECT DETAILS The building isa, single, -family- residential dwelling. AEC, was responsible for consulting with the abatement representative (Rich), to ensure the abatement areas (Kitchen) in(] materials (Sheet Vinyl) removed Nverr understood so that the clea,ra.nce(s) could be properly performed. 3.0 FINAL VISUAL PROCEDURES It is the AEC ANISs rrsponsibility to be certified in the State of Colorado and to perforin clearaclearindelwndent of the GAC. AI+QC's checklist for final visual inspections include: making sm-e only critical barriers air in place, verify-ing decontamination and waste load -outs are still intact, all waste bags are removed from the containments all exhaust filters are in operation, the area, is completely dry and sufficiently well lit, having access to all areas, all equipment is clean including the outside of the NAM, llottold shower water working properly, a clear view port, minimum of 12"x 12", and all dust and debris has [wen removed from the work areaincluding behind critical barriers. It was determined that the abatement contractor had properly cleaned the work area completely of all dust and debris prior to air monitoring collection. 4.0 FINAL CLFARANCEi AIS, MONITORING AND SAMPLING Final clearance air samples were collected using constant I'low high-volume air sampling pumps, twenty-five (25) NIM air sampling cassettes, 11exible tubing and adjustable sampling stands. The sampling cassettes were attached to one end of the flexible tubing and placed on the stands approximately roily -eight (48) inches above the floor. The opposite ends of the flexible tubing wen attached to the air sampling pumps. The PCM sample pumps were activated and operated at a, flow rate of approxirmatoly fifteen (15) LPN[ 1'01. a, period of approximately thirty-five (35) minutes. Aggressive air sampling techniques (i.e. one-horse powered leaf' blom,r for five minutes per 1,000 SF and a ran placed it a forty-I'ivedegree angle toward the ceiling per 10,00(m) SFS as described in 40 CI+R Part 76:3, Appendix A to Subpart, E, were utilized throughout the sample collection prYrccss. ITpon completion of the final clea, ratice air sampling, labels containing sample identification numbers, sample location, primp 11ow rate, and total sample time were applied to each sampling cassette. Per the applicable regulations, based on the quantity- of ACM removed during the abatement project, five (5) final clearance air samples were collected in the full containment work arva(s) located at the site. 5.0 ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGY AND LABORATORY RESULTS The AFC representative is trained in "Al laboratory analysis by the NIOSII 582 -Equivalent Corpse and successfully participates in the AIIIA PAT program. The equation to reporft F/CC starts by calculating the fiber density on the filter "E", by dividing the average fiber count per graticule field, Fur, minus the mean field blank count per gratic, ule field, 13/ne, by- the gratici le field arra, Ar (approx. 0.00785).
