The deck posts will be supported by drilled helical piers with Simpson post bases attached. The review of the capacity of the supports were performed using the design criteria listed below. Design Criteria: Building Codes: IBCQRC 2018, ASCE7-16 Dead Load: 10 psf Snow Load: 30 psf Live Load: 60 psf Pier Loading (Worst Cases): Total load on pier (Upper Deck- House side Beam) : 8050 lbs Total load on pier (Upper Deck- Open side Beam) : 6650 lbs Total load on pier (Landing) : 1500 lbs Capacity Calculations: Approx. Install Torque: 1800 ft -lbs (required min during installation) K Factor: 9 for 2 7/8" pile Ultimate Maximum Bearing Capacity: (9)*(1800) =16200 lbs Factor of Safety: 2 Approximate Maximum Bearing Capacity = 16200/2 = 8100 lbs Results: 8100 > 8050 lbs therefore ok After the review, it is our opinion that the proposed helical piers and post bases can adequately support the loading from the deck. The minimum required installation torque for the Upper deck - House Side beam to be 1800 ft -lbs. The minimum required installation torque for the Upper deck- Open Side beam to be 1500 ft -lbs. The minimum required installation torque for the landing to be 750 ft -lbs If installation torque is lower engineer is to be notified prior to further construction.
