The shade membranes have a steel cable along their perimeter. which is pretensioned to 250 lb. The structures are to be installed over straight pier foundations. The wind design procedure for pitched (free) roofs is what best suits this kind of shade structure. The wind solution is to be analyzed for the complete structure (framing and fabric) with a design wind speed of 105 MPH. The snow solution is to be analyzed for the complete structure (framing and fabric) with a ground snow load of 5 PSF. Please note that the membrane covers have to be removed in the winter when snow loads are expected to be in excess of 5 PSF. Jerry Sauer and I walked through the restaurant on 7/12, We spoke with Katie, about a few items that -•-•;.• Among those were: the fire extinguisher in the back room needs to have a tag, and a company to service/tag it every year, and the hood Ansul system needed to be inspected and tagged, and the CO bottles in back need to be chained to the wall. I will state the specific code and what needs to be done in the facility to ensure compliance with the fire code. EXISTING: 1) Panic hardware, when installed, shall comply with the building code and installed at a mounting height of not less than 30 inches, nor more than 44 inches above the floor. The unlatching force shall not exceed 15 pounds when applied in the direction of existing travel. [UFC 88, 12.104(d)]. * This panic hardware is optional, but all exit doors must remain unlocked during business hours and exit doors shall be operable from the inside without the use of a key or any knowledge or effort. [UFC 88, 12.108(b)]. 2) Exit signs are required if occupant load is 50 or more. [UFC 88, 12.108(a). * The occupant load is listed as 185. Each exit sign shall be installed at required exit doorways and be properly maintained. AUTOMATIC/PORTABLE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS: 1) All commercial cooking equipment, including hoods, ducts, cooking surfaces and fryers shall be protected by an approved automatic extinguishing system. [UFC 88, 10.313(a)(b)]. * The system has not been serviced in the past year. Maintenance is required every six months if fusible links are part of the system. Otherwise, the automatic sprinkler heads need to be serviced every 12 months. You have two separate cooking areas, therefore each area is required to have an automatic extinguishment system. Please have your fire protection company provide you with a system of adequate design. In addition, you should require documentation on the system and its general serviceability if you intend to use the equipment currently in the facility or your may decide to replace the hoods and extinguishment systems. * All automatic fire extinguishing systems shall be interconnected to the fuel or current supply, so that the fuel or current is automatically shut off to all equipment under the hood when the system is activated. [UFC 88, 10.313(c)]. 2) Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed near the food processing equipment in accordance with Uniform Fire Code Standard No. 10-1. [UFC 88, 10.313(d)]. * You need to have the existing extinguishers serviced if they meet the 2A, 20BC fire extinguisher standard. Your fire protection service company can assist you in this area. You will need one extinguisher per 1,500 square feet, placed so that the maximum travel distance to an extinguisher is less than 75 feet. In addition, one extinguisher needs to be located near each cooking area. 3) Instructions for manually operating the fire extinguishing system shall be posted at a conspicuous location within the kitchen. [UFC 88, 10.313(f)]. * Your fire protection service company again can assist you in this area. 4) Hoods, grease removal devices, fans, ducts and other appurtenances shall be cleaned at frequent intervals. [UFC 88, 10.313(e)]. * There is an enormous grease build up in the hoods and ducts. Good housekeeping measures need to be employed. 5) Commercial hoods need to conform with Article 20 of the Uniform Mechanical Code. * The venting of the oven needs to have a separate vent. It cannot be incorporated into the venting of the hood system. * The secondary cooking area needs to have an adequate hood system. (This is the sauce cooking area). GENERAL CODE REQUIREMENTS: 1) The Fire Chief has determined that all commercial structures have a Knox Box installed. [UFC 88, 10.209(b)], as amended. * I have enclosed the marketing literature for your review. Please let me know if you need an order form. 2) Whenever the Chief or his duly authorized representative deems any chimney, smoke stack, stove, oven... to be defective or unsafe so as to create an immediate hazard... written notice to repair or alter shall be provided. [UFC 88, 2.204(b)]. * The back splash panels to the rear of the main cook stove, as well as between the deep-fat-fryer and oven, are not constructed of non-combustible material. They should be removed and replaced with insulated panels of non-combustible material, which will reduce the heat buildup and eliminate the possibility of a person being burned. * The hot water heater flue in the secondary cooking area has a buildup of tar which should be removed. Additionally, the shelf above the stove likewise needs to be removed. ELECTRICAL: 1) The electrical box in the north dining room needs a cover and the "off/on" switch needs to be removed from the panel and placed in its own electrical box. 2) Extension cords shall not be used as a substitute for permanent wiring. [UFC 88, 85.106(a)]. * There are a number of extension cords throughout the business that do not have service grounding or are improperly used. 3) In the main kitchen the light fixture over the sink has exposed wire nuts. Square Feet: 2,680 Foot Print Applicable Code: 97 UFC Sprinkler System: Unknown Fue Alann System: Unknown Reviewed by the Arvada Fire Protection District, Division of Fire Prevention at the request of the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District. Due to the lack of familiarity with the facility, comments have been made to address possible code requirements. 1. Site: The address numbers shall be posted on a temporary basis and shall be permanently affixed to the building in a minimum of 4-inch numbers on a contrasting background visible from the street frontage. UFC 97 901.4.4. Amended. 2. Exits: The Occupancy Classification appears to be Group A-3. The proposed new full height aluminum store front door will need to comply with the following: Panic Hardware: Exit doors from Group A Occupancies shall not be provided with a latch or lock unless it is panic hazdwaze. Exception: In Group A, Division 3 Occupancies and in all churches, panic hazdware may be omitted from the main exit when the main exit consists of a single door or pair of doors. A key locking device may be used in place of panic hardwaze, provided there is a readily visible durabie sign adjacent to the doorway stating, This Door Is ro Remain Urilocked During Business Hours. The sign shall be in letters not less than 1 inch heigh on a contrasting background. The exisiting double doors from the building wil] need to be provided with panic hardware or no type of locking device. 3. The new exit door may be provided with panic hardware. No additional locks or latches may be provided. 2. Exit Signs: 1. If an exit sign is presentiy located over the exisiting exit door to the new outdoor seating area, the exit sign will need to be relocated or added to the new exit door. UFC 97 1'212.1. 3.
