This letter serves to follow up on our phone conversation regarding the application of fire dampens and
fire/smoke dampers in new construction within Whtat Ridge. In particulaz we are interested how we
can apply the locai requiremenCS to our new offce faciliry at 10055 West 43`° Ave.
As we discussed, die UBC fails to define limiu on the application of tiralsmoke dampers as related in
NFYA. Therefora, the City of Wheat Ridge will allow us to simply use fire dampers as long as the Fira
Department-in this case Arvada Fire Departmeno-is in agreement. Per your reques[ we contacted Steve
Steigleder at Aryada Fire Depattment and discussed [his very issue. In essence Sreve has know
ubjections. The fire code does not specifically address fiit;/smoke dampers. Rather, is requires damper
application in aecorciance with othzr codes and guideiines. Therefor.e, Arvada Fire Beparronent simply
allows local building depar[men[s [o use their own interpretations.
In summary, pursuanL to rhc guidelines af the Ciry of Wheat Ridge and the Arvada Fire Department; we
will use fire dampers rathar than tire/smoke dampers in our new office. Thank you for your time and
