June 23, 1994 Colorado Department of Health ATI'A': Ms. Pat Nelson Permlts and Enforcement Water Quality Control bivision 4300 Cherry Creek Drive Soufh Denver, Colorado 80222-1530 FtE: National Pollution Discharge Elunination System (NPDES) Monthly Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) Total Station No. 2349 6601 West 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. Colorado Pernvt ATO. COG310013 Dear Ms. Nelson: 138-053 Please find enclosed a copy of ffie May 1994 Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for the above- reSerenced site. Results from the May 1994 sampling indicate an apparent violation of the total suspended sollds (TSS) limit establlshed by the permit. Your office was notified upon receiving results of the violation. The remainder of the system eflluent complies with the limits established by the permit for the site. It is belleved that the elevated TSS levels experienced during the month of May could have occurred as a result of fluctuations in the influent ground water quality. It is possible that groundwater quality is changing as a result of seasonal runoff and rechazge. This change in groundwater quality may be the cause of the TSS violatton. Followuig the TSS failure, the feed rate of the sequestering agent feed pump was increased in an attempt to reduce the TSS levels at the system discharge. In addition, the air strtpper and off- water separator were inspected and cleaned in order to remove arry accumulated scale deposits and biological growth. Recent NPDES sampling compieted in June of 1994 indicates that 15S limits at the discharge have retumed to within the permit limits. The system will continued to be monitored and ff required, additional adjustrnents or modifications wlll be made to maintain the system discharge wlthin the permit liinita 7f you hAave any questions this report, please do not hesitate to contact our office. The unit is U.L. and CSA iisted, FM approved for use in Class i, Groups C& D, Class II, Groups E, F, 8 G and Class III atmaspheres. It is also totaily rain-Gght for outdoor instatla- Gons. Twelve models aliow set-points from ,03 to 20 inches W.C. and from .5 to 50 PSI. Easy access to the SPDT switch for electrical hook-up is provided by removing the top plate of the three-part alumi- num housing. Adjustment to ihe set point of the switch can be made without disassembiy of the housing. The unit is very compact, about half the weight and buik of equivalent con- ventional explosion-proof switches. CAUTION: Use of ihe Model 7950 switch with explosive media connected to the low pressure port (including differential pressure applications fn such media) is not recommended. Switch coniact arcing can cause an explosion Inside the switch housing which, while contained, may render the switch lnoperative. It switch is being used rosense a single positlve pressure relative to atmosphere, run a line from the low pressure port to a non-hazardous area free of combustible 7989, DWYER INSTRUMENTS, INC. The totalized flow and flow rate are displayed on two six digit liquid crystal displays (LCD's). Both displays are properly labeled with respective units of ineasurement. The low current draw of its CMOS circuitry enables the MC-II to run for three to five years on a single battery. The MC-II has the advantage of being battery powered and enclosed in a noncorrosive wea[herproof housing, an ideal combination for use in remote locations. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS A. GENERAL The 1`lodel tiC-II Flow Analyzer was designed to be moimted either diiectly atop its companion flow meter or, with optional liardware, on vertical or horizontal 2" pipe. Either type mount should be free of vibration. (See Figures 2 and 3.) Fach MC-II is calibrated for operation with a particular flow meter at the factory, but it can be recalibrated for any compatible flow meter on site. kefer to calibration section of this manual if recr.l.iUration i^ needed. The serial numbers of companion flow me[ers and readouts may be determined from the shipping and/or packing infurmation. The serial number fur the PfC-II is located on the back o.E the housina.. The s,~ri+il number C LM/MAR 1-85 , ;Ai.ueUR7oN INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 2 SERVICES aiso appears on the outside of the shipping carton. The serial number for the flow meter is stamped on the flow meter body attd also appears on its shipping carton. It is good practice to orient MC-II's such that the ]iquid crystal displays are not exposed to direct sunlight. B. MOUNTING ON FLOW METER 'ilie Mt,-IL is sliippeu conpletely assembled. After the Flow meter ha:: been instaLled in the fLow line according to the instructions furnished witli it, the pickup should be installed, also according to the flow meter instruction manual. If remote mounting option was ordered along with the inscrument, see Option Sectiun 3. It is advisable to grease the pickup chreads before screciing them into the flow meter body co facilitate easy removal in the future. For the same reason grease the pickup threads which mxte with the connector. Plug the connector on the end of the MC-II signal cable intu the pickup and turn the swivel nut until the connector is fully inserted into [he pickup and the swivel nu[ is hand tight. Loosen the locking screws which hold the base of the 41C-II mount secure. Position the MC-II on the flow meter, carefully pulling excess signal ca61e through the strain relief cord connector on the side of the upper mount. (Refer to Nomenclature I& Figure 4.) Thread the 6ase of the mount ontu the conduit adapter of the turbine meter and tightee two extra rounds after it is hand tight. It is important that the upper mount and MC-II readouc be kept from turning while the base is being tightened in order tu prevent the signxl cablz from being danaged by twisting. Tigh[en tlie outside nut of the strain relief cord cunnector on the upper mount with a 15mci open end wrench to prevent cord slippage. Adjust the tIC-II read- CLM/MAR 1-85 3 ~xrHALLIBURTON MC-11 FLOW ANALYZER SERVICES out for best viewing position anS tighten the locking screws in [he upper mount. The viewing angle may be adjusted by loocening the nut on the bolt which holds the !IC-II teadout on the upper mount, tilting to [he desired .angle and retightenino. Pump grease into the grease fitting located on ~the side of the base of the mount until grease comes out of the pressure relief hole which is located opposite the grease fitting. C. REbiOTE MOUNTING The MC-II Flow Analyzer is designed to be installed directly atop the flow meter; but if the flow meter is in a line which has vibration or if the location of the meter makes it undesirable to mount the A1C-ZI directly on the meter, remote mounting hardware is available to allow the MC-II to t,e nounted on a 2 inch pipe. Refer to Option Section 3. OPERATION After proper installation and calibration, the MC-II is ready for operation. If the MC-II was not ordered with a companion flow meter and needs to be calibrated for the meter it is to be used with, see Calibration Section. When fluid begins to pass through the flow meter, the MC-II displays should register total accumulated flow volume and instantaneous flow rate. The decimal points wi11 appear in their proper position in the dispiays when the units are properly calibrated. If the flow rate exceeds the capabilities of the display, an "E" wi71 appear in the far left hand digit of the rate display, followed by the lower five digits of the rate display. The total display wi11 remain accurate as long as the 35 Hz maximum count rate is not exceeded. The divisor and rate multi.plier which are set into the PfC-II will be CLM/MAR 1-85 HALUBURTON OPERATION ~ SERVICES displayed on the tocal and rate dispLays respectively when the "VIEFI DIV" button is ptessed. (See Figure 1.) This buttun may have to be pressed for a few seconds in order to obtain this display. The divisor display will have a decimal point appearing in the normal display position. This decimal point does not reflect the position of a decimal point in the divisor as the divisor is always a whole number. However, the decimal point appearing in the rate multiplier display is in the actual position occupied by a decimal point in tlie multiplier. The accumulaced flow total may be reset to zero by pressing the "ItESET" button if the reset function is enabled. (Refer to Calibration 5ection for informatioa concerning enabling and disabling this function.) 'this bu[ton may have to be pressed for a few seconds in order to impLement a reset. MAINTENANCE * To oain access to the in[ernal portion of the MC-II, loosen the eight captive screws around [he outer edge on the back of the enclosure. Once all of these screws are loose, the front plate of the MC-II should fold down, hinging on the plastic recaining straps at the bottom of the enclosure. It may be necessary to use a thin screwdriver blade to pry the ~k CAUTION: Under normal operacing conditions the P(C-II poses no hazard when the enclosure is opened. The lithium bactery which powers the MC-II is a sealed unit; but if one of these units leaks, there is a possibilicy uf zoxic fumes being present when the enclosure is opened. Select a aeYl-ventilated area in cahich to open the enclosure and avoid breathing fumes that may be trapped inside. Care must be taken in handling and disposing of a damaged battecy. See additiunal Safety Information in the appendix section of the manii81. CLM/MAR 1-85 5 h MC-11 FLOW ANALYZER ~~ERVICESN front plate free. The battery and circuit board should now be exposed for servicing. A. BATTERY REPLACEMENT The baccery used in the MC-II has a life expectancy of about three to five years. 'Lhis battery has a very flat discharge curve, making it difficult co measure the battery vultage and determine the remaining batcery life at any point in time. When the battery is replaced, the new battery must Ue connected to the unused battery terminals before the nld batcery is discunnected in order to prevent the loss of counts and calibration information. It is advisable to record the date oE inscallation on replacement batteries to help ascertain when the next replacenent may be required. B. CIRCUIT ASSEMBLY The circuit assembly 991.43179 contains all of the electronic components. To remove this circuit card, ramove the four screws located in che cornzcs of the card, and discunnect the battery, signal cable, and the switch plate. C. RECALIBRATION In order to provide maximum accuracy, the MC-II should be recalibrated vhenever its associated flow meter has a new rotor and vane kit installed, or whenever the r1C-II is used with a flow meter with a different calibra- cion factor. (P.efer to Calibration Section.) Changing the calibration df an MC-II will not destroy the total accumulated flow to that time. They alsa manitor the recovered praduct halding tank(s) to turn otf the system when the tank(s) are full. Further, they periodically drain the air filter to ensure that cfean, dry air entsrs the controls. The panels can he submerged in water withaut harm and can withstand exposure to dust and vibration whicn would narmaily damage electricai systems. METHOD OF OPERATlON: 'i'he panels are pawered entirely by compressed air. Two quarter-inch (6 mm) air lines feed the panei from air filters. The sir to the logic cemponents of the panel is tiltered much finer than the air to the pumps. 7he panel has the fo!lowing outlets: ` A. Weli l.eve! Sensor • This outlet senses the back pressure on a hase that leads dawrt tha well. When the fluid level rises in the weil, the back pressure i increases. This is transmitted to pneumatic ampiifiers in tha panel. ~ B. Tank-Full Sensars (2) - Two outletS feei the back pressure on hoses which lead ta the recovered product tank. Both feed the pressure to amplitiers in the panei. If pressure rises on one hose, the unit is shut down. If the pressure fafis on the other hose, the unit is shut down. ThiS dual shut- off provides added safery in the event the hoses are cut or pinched. Furtner, if either hose is disconnected from the panel, the system is shut down. Only by correcting the causa of the shutdawn an,d pushing the reset button, can the unit be made operatianal again. C. Filter Pulse Dcain - Each time the product pump is activatsd a puise of air is sent to the air filters to drain it of water and aii. This raduces maintenance and down tima ef the system due Ea contaminated air reaching the controls. D. Product Pump Alr - The air to drive the produot pump comes trom this fitting. It is emitted during the "on" cycle and exhausted during the "off" cycle of the product purnp. E. Water Pump Atc • The air to drive the water pump comes irom this fitting. It is emitted when t}te back pressure in the weU level sensing hose is greater than 4' (10 cm) of water pressura and is exheusted when it is tess than (7.6 cm) ot water pressure. ` `?Ul. 17 '91 19:45 CEE,INC 415-654-4193 Ef9RYVL,Cq ~ P.1 WELL I.EVEL C[]NTROI VALYE _ I ,o- FLUID DISCHARG$ AIR FILTERS/REGULATQRS AIR SUPPLY WELL SENSCR LEVEL pSE I Li PL ~~~~~wv t ~ff ?UMP 04p' . ? _s ~ . ~ ~ ~ ~ .W , ~ . ~ ~ w , ♦ 2• WELL DR LARGER ~ ~4Q ~ e' o' e' - V • h'LUIII INTAICE HOSE ~ r.. ; WATER ~ ~ ~ 1~ CLEAN ENV: ~ EOUIPHENT FQR FUEL SPIE.L R£HEDIATION~ AND GRQtJNIIWATER CLEAN-ttP . , ...-.~......,.,r..~ ~ wnt sl=t.
