Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name)
roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

received prior to the date of expiration. An extension of no more than 180 days made be granted at the discretion of the Chief Building
Official andmaybe subject to a fee equal to one-half of the original ermit fee.
3. If this permit expires, a new permit may be required to be obtained. Issuance of a new permit shall be subject to the standard
requirements, fees androcedures for approval of any new permit. Re -issuance or extension of expired permits is at the sole discretion of
the Chief Building Official and is not guaranteed.
4. No work of any manner shall be performed that shall results in a changeof the natural flow of water without prior and specific approval.
5. The permit holder shall notify the Building and Inspection Services Division in accordance with established policy of all required
inspections and shall not proceed or conceal work without written approval of such work from the Building and Inspection Services
Division.
6. The issuance or granting of a, permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any provision of any

completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

At your reques[, we have evaluated the capacity of the existing roof s[ructure to suppott an added
roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) solar array proposed for the residence reFerenced above. The PV
panels to be installed will be set at a 22.6 degree angle on the overhanging porch roof, and flush
mounted on the main roof. The PV system will add approxima[ely 3 pounds per square foot (psf)
of dead load to the roof.
It is our understanding that Standard Renewable Energy will be utilizing an installation method
prescribed by a proprietary racking.system manufacturer as a means to attach the panels to the
roof, and that Ihis installation method has been designed and sealed by a licensed engineer in the
State of Colorado.
The 2006 Colorado Front Range Gust Map places this residence in a location that has a design
wind speed of 105 mph, three second gust. The code required exposure is C. Following the
analytical design procedures of ASCE 7-05 the maximum design wind uplift components and
dadding pressures are 47.7 psf for [he flush moun[ed panels and 49.8 psf for [he tilt-up panels.
The PV panels are to attach to the existing roof with support rails and attachments. For the flush
mounted panels the rails shall be perpendiwlar to the existing roof framing and spaced at a
maximum of 3'-0" with attachments spaced at a maximum of 2'-0" along [he rails. For the tilbup
panels the rails shall be parallel to the roof rafters and the attachments shall be spaced at a
maximum of 3'-0" along the rails.
Each attachment shall be connec[ed to the roof structure with a 5/16" diameter by 4" long lag
screw with a minimum of 2 1/2" embedment in pre-drilled holes (3/16" diameter for the threaded
por[ion of the screw and 5/16" diameter for the un[hreaded shank) into the existing roof trusses.
The screws shall be located within the center one-third (1/2") of the truss member width.
Another option for the roof connection (if acceptable by the track and attachmen[ manufacturer)
is using 1/4" diameter by 3 1/2" long "Simpsod" SDS screws with a minimum of 2 1/4"
embedment in 1/8" diameter pre-drilled holes.

Based on these criteria it is our professional opinion that the superimposed dead and wind loads
of the ptoposed solar arrays do not overstress the existing struc[ure, provided [here is only one
layer of shingles on the roof. The flush mount system does not add additional wind loading to the
existing main roof framing.
