The residence is a single -story wood framed structure with an exterior brick veneer, and a finished basement. For the purpose of this report, the residence faces east. It is our understanding the existing window opening on the north wall of the basement approximately 4'-6" from the west wall is to be modified to accommodate an emergency egress from the basement in accordance with the City of Wheat Ridge Building Department requirements. The existing opening is to be extended from the bottom of the existing steel sill to a sill height on the order of 40 inches. The width of the opening will not be altered. The house was constructed in the 1960's. The dividing walls and ceilings are textured plaster and textured drywall. Some demolition had been performed on the plaster walls on the ground level. The floors on the ground level are hardwood some areas had been removed to the sub floor. The Basement level floors are concrete with areas of linoleum (sheet vinyl) and vinyl floor tile. SCOPE FOF WORK • Perform visual, tactile inspection of suspect ACM. • Identify, locate and areas to be sampled or presumed ACM • Collect samples of friable and non -friable ACM and presumed ACM • Provide sample analysis by polarized light microscopy • Provide project report with laboratory results and conclusions SECTION 2 INSPECTION METHODOLOGY: The asbestos inspection was conducted in general accordance with the guidelines of the National Emissions Standards Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPS) 40 CFR Part 61 and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Regulation 8. A visual and tactile inspection of suspect friable and non -friable asbestos containing material (ACM) was performed. This inspection established and located homogeneous areas. Building material samples were collected of suspect asbestos ACM that could potentially be impacted by remodel, alteration and repair work. City or Wheat Homogeneous Area divisions Suspect ACM were grouped into homogeneous areas based on physical characteristics and functional application. Homogeneous areas were divided into one of three categories based on as designated by Colorado Regulation 8 and the EPA. 1. Thermal systems insulation — (TSI) Insulations to control thermal conductivity pipe/ duct wrap, boiler & chiller insulations and tanks etc. 2. Surfacing material — (SM) Sprayed —on or troweled onto structural members or walls (i.e. fire -proofing on structural steel or drywall finishes) 3. Miscellaneous — (MM) remaining suspect materials (i.e. flooring, gaskets, shingles, ceiling tiles fixtures etc.) Sampling was conducted per Colorado Regulation 8 protocol, specifying the minimum collection of: • 3 samples of surfacing materials less than 1,000 square feet in size. • 5 samples of surfacing materials between 1,000 and 5,000 square feet in size; and • 7 samples of surfacing materials greater than 5,000 square feet in size. • 2 samples were collected from miscellaneous materials Colorado Regulation 8 and the EPA define asbestos containing material (ACM) as material that contains greater than one -percent asbestos. Building materials that contain trace (less than 1%) asbestos are not regulated by the State of Colorado or the US EPA. OSHA regulations for worker protection do apply to trace asbestos containing materials and appropriate measures should be used during demolition activities. If less than or equal to ten percent of asbestos is detected in a friable sample, then the sample must be pointed -counted, including samples with results less than one percent or the sample must be presumed to be ACM per CDPHE regulation. Point -counting is a systematic laboratory technique which can more accurately quantify the percent of asbestos. Friable material and non - friable material that could be rendered friable during renovation activities are required to be point -counted by Colorado Regulation No. 8 or be presumed to be ACM All samples were submitted to Reservoirs Environmental, Inc., 5801 Logan Street, Dver CP6 °f under proper chain -of -custody procedures.
