A RESOLUTION CALLING AND DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK
TO GIVE NOTICE OF A RUNOFF ELECTION FOR THE OFFICE
OF CITY CLERK AND MAKING A SUPPLEMENTAL
APPROPRIATION THEREWITH
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, as a home rule municipality
organized under Article XX of the Colorado Constitution, has authority, acting through
its elected City Council, to adopt ordinances governing the procedure for the conduct of
municipal elections; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Colorado Constitution Article XX, the electors of the City
have previously adopted a home rule charter for the City; and
WHEREAS, the Wheat Ridge home rule charter section 2.1 provides that City
elections are governed by the Colorado municipal election laws except as otherwise
provided by the charter or by ordinance hereinafter enacted; and
WHEREAS, in the event no candidate for the office of city clerk at the November
1, 2011 election receives a majority of the votes cast for said office, a runoff election will
be required;
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to call and give notice of a special runoff election
if needed; and
WHEREAS, the Council wishes to amend the 2011 Budget to provide for an
appropriation of funds to pay the costs of said Runoff Election.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Wheat Ridge City Council:
Section 1. Special Runoff Election Called; Notice
The City Council hereby calls a special runoff election for the office of city clerk,
following the November 1, 2011 regular municipal election, to be held as either a polling
place or mail-ballot election on the date established by the Election Commission
established pursuant to Charter section 2.4. The City Clerk is hereby directed to give
notice of the election as required by law.
Section 2. Election canceled -When
In the event a candidate for the office of city clerk receives a majority of the votes cast
for that office at the November 1, 2011 municipal election, the runoff election called by
this Resolution shall be canceled.
