AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO. 25 BY REPEALING SECTION 9 AND REENACTING SECTION 9. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF bJHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO, THAT: Section 1. Repealing Clause. Section 9 of Ordinance No. 25 is hereby repealed in full. Section 2. Reenacting Clause. Section 9 of Ordinance No. 25 is hereby reenacted as follows: Section 9. Special Paliceā€¢ Reserve Police Appointment; Powers. The Mayor may upon any emergency, riot, pestilence, invasion, or at any time he shall deem it necessary for the peace, good order or health of the City, order the Chief of Police to appoint Special Policemen for a specified time, not exceeding two (2) days, without the approval of the City Council. He may also, with the approval of a majority of the City Council, order the Chief of Police to appoint such number of Special Policeman as may be agreed upon by City Council, to serve upon days of election, public celebration and holidays, and said Special Policemen shall have and possess all the powers and privileges of regular policemen during the time for which they may be appointed. The Mayor may order the Chief of Police to appoint such number of Reserve Policemen a-s may be authorized by the City Council, and said Reserve Policeman shall have and possess all the powers and privileges of regular policemen. E Section 3. _Emergency Clause. The provisions of this ordinance are necessary for-the immediate preservatian_of the public health, safety, andwelfare of the City for the following reasons: 1. No ordinance has been previously passed relating to appointment of Reserve and Special Policemen as set out herein. 2. No ordinancehas been passed previously concerning this subject as the City completed incorporation August 20, 1969, and no ordinances-existed at that time. Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force five (5).days-after publication following final passage, providing it shall have been passed by an affirmative vote of three-fourths (3/4) of the members of the City Council; otherwise, said ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days after publication following final passage.
