HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance-1977-0229 - Amend WR Ord 207 - Increasing City Contribution to Employee Health InsuranceINTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN Merkl ORDINANCE NO. 229 Series of 1977 TITLE: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION XIII OF ORDINANCE NO. 207, SERIES of 1976, AND PROVIDING FOR AN INCREASE IN THE CITY'S CONTRIBUTION TOWARD EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS FROM A MAXIMi1M OF $52.50 PER MONTH TO A MAXIMUM CONTRIBUTION OF $60.00 PER MONTH AND FUR- THER PROVIDING THAT SUCH CONTRIBUTION SHALL REMAIN IN EFFECT HEREAFTER UNTIL CHANGED BY ORDINANCE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE, COLORADO, THAT: Section I. Section XIII of Ordinance No. 207, Series of 1976, is hereby amended to read: Effective February 1, 1977 the City will pay 100% of the individual employee's health plan premiuma portionof the health plan premium cost for employee dependents, subject to the limitation that the City's cash contribution, in any event, will not exceed $60.00 per month as a total City contribution toward the combined employee and dependent coverage. The intent of this provision is to establish a maximum City contribution toward health plan costs of the City for its employees. Effective February 1, 1977 the employee will be required to pay any difference now, or in the future, above $60.00 per month for the plan selected by him, provided such plan is offered by the City. Health plans offered by the City shall be subject to annual review and approval prior to the renewal date of January 1 each year. Section II. All remaining sections of Ordinance 207, Series of 1976, shall remain in full force and effect. Section III, Severability Clause. If any clause, sentence, paragraph, or part of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstances shall for any reason be adjudged by a court of competent jurisdiction invalid, such judgment shall not affect, impair or invalidate the remainder of this ordinance or its application to other persons or circumstances. Section IV. Emergency Clause The provisions of this ordinance are necessarv for the immediate well-being of City employees for the following reasons: Ordinance No. 229 Page 2 (1) The City has changed health insurance companies for the benefit of its employees. (2) An increase in premium charged by the insurance companies has created an undue burden upon the City's employees. Section V. Effective Date for this Ordinance This ordinance shall take effect and be in force immediately after publication following final passage providing it shall have been passed by an affirmative vote of three-fourths (3/4) of the members of the City Council and has been approved by the Mayor of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Otherwise, said ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days after pub- lication following final passage.
