HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-1975-0428 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN TURNER RESOLUTION NO. 428 Series of 1975 WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Commission on October 30, 1975, issued a decision regarding Phase 2 of the 1975 Mountain Bell request for increased revenues w~ich include an authorization to Moun- tain Bell to bill consumers for the municipal utility tax; and WHEREAS, this action of the Public Utilities Commission has been the source of much adverse reaction from the citizens of Wheat Ridge; and WHEREAS, the City Council discussed this matter at a meeting November 24, 1975, and concluded that the itemization of this sur- charge in its billing procedure places an unfair burden on consumers and, in effect, results in a double taxation to the residents of this City who are already paying for public streets and rights of way and is discriminatory to the City; and WHEREAS, the municipal franchise tax has traditionally been absorbed by Mountain Bell as a part of its normal operating costs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge hereby protests the change in billing procedure authorized by the Public Utilities Commission; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby requests the Public Utilities Commission to reverse its authorization of October 30, 1975 to Mountain Bellon this matter and require Mountain Bell to consider the municipal franchise tax as a part of its operating cost as in the past, and to discontinue the separate designation of the charge from its telephone service billings.
