TITLE: RESOLUTION STATING AND CORRESPONDING TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
ENERGY THE POSITION OF THE WHEAT RIDGE CITY COUNCIL CONCERNING THE TRANS-
PORTATION OF TOXIC AND DANGEROUS CHEMICALS TO THE ROCKY FLATS PLANT FOR
THE PURPOSE OF DISPOSITION
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council of the City of
Wheat Ridge that Rocky Flats may test new technology for the disposition of PCB's
(Polychlorinated Biphenyls); and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge is responsible for
the health, safety and welfare of its approximately 36,000 citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge recognizes the national health problem
involved with the existence of PCB's and the necessity to dispose of such PCB's;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the intense pressure to develop
technology to dispose of PCB's and other toxic and dangerous wastes; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has accepted the necessity to test burn no
more than one gallon of PCB's for the purposes of disposing of the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Wheat
Ridge, Colorado, that:
1) It is not acceptable that any further toxic or chemical wastes
be transported to the Rocky Flats Plant for the purposes of
disposition by any method; and
2) The City Council would fervently and vigorously oppose any such
attempt by either the United States Department of Energy or
Rockwell International, or any other entity to transport
dangerous and toxic wastes to the Rocky Flats Plan from out of
state for disposition by any means.
DONE AND RESOLVED this 11th day of August, A.D. 1980, by a vote of 6
to 0
