CITY OF WHEAT RIDGE
Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
April 6, 1988
The meeting was called to order at 7;40 p.m. by Chairman Edgar
Johnson. Commissioners present; Tom Macaluso, John McDermott,
Beverly Phillips, Janice Thompson, and Sue Wilson. Staff present:
Richard Bredt, Director, and Patricia Walsh, Secretary.
DETERMINATION OF QUORUM With six commissioners present a quorum was
established.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
meeting of February
seconded the motion
Tom Macaluso moved that the minutes of the
18, 1988 be approved as submitted. Betty Day
and the motion passed unanimously.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS There were no guests present.
LAND ACQUISITION OFFER - MR. JAY CULBERTSON, 4245 OAK STREET Rich
Bredt presented the Commission with a map and land survey of the
property. He has met several times with Mr. Culbertson regarding this
possible acquisition. Mr. Culbertson has expressed an interest in
selling the strip, approximately one acre, bordering the creek or
considering an easement.
Janice Thompson moved that the Commission recommend City Council pass
a resolution authorizing the Jefferson County Open Space to appraise
and acquire this parcel of land for parks and open space purposes.
The reasons are two-fold: to continue and complete that section of
greenbelt, and in keeping with the desires of City Council to acquire
additional land. The motion was seconded by Sue Wilson and passed
unanimously.
JOINT VENTURE APPLICATION RE: PARAMOUNT PARK Rich Bredt presented
the Commission with a list of criteria and rating system finalized by
the Jefferson County Open Space for park development projects. He
told the Commission he would like to apply for partial funding for the
park project at Paramount Park.
John McDermott moved that the Department submit the application and
request $100,000 to be used for Paramount Park. The motion was
seconded by Tom Macaluso and passed unanimously.
WHEAT RIDGE LUMBER COMPANY LAND ACQUISITION DISCUSSION The Commission
discussed the letter received by McKee Realty concerning the sale of
the Wheat Ridge Lumber Company land and buildings. The land
acquisition on the south side would provide additional parking for the
swimming pool and park area.
Sue Wilson moved that the Commission recommend City Council pass a
resolution authorizing the Jefferson County Open Space appraise the
land on the south side of 44th Avenue for possible acquisition. The
motion was seconded by Beverly Phillips and passed unanimously.
