TITLE:
RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF COLORADO 2000
WHEREAS, the office of the
"Colorado 2000 Communities,"
state's schools; and
Governor of Colorado has initiated
a statewide effort to improve the
WHEREAS, one of the objectives of "Colorado 2000 Communities" is
to gain statewide adoption of the six National Education Goals by
school districts, community groups, service and civic
organizations, government agencies and others; and,
WHEREAS, "Colorado 2000 Communities" is designed to motivate
citizens to take greater responsibility for the quality of their
communi ty' s schools and to actively participate in the
development and implementation of strategies which will lead to
the attainment of the National Education Goals; and,
WHEREAS, a sound educational system is fundamental to the
economic stability of a community and a major factor in
maintaining a high quality of life; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, the City of Wheat
Colorado local governments in adopting
Educational Goals;
Ridge hereby joins other
the following six National
GOAL 1: Readiness for School. By the year 2000, all
children in America will start school ready to learn.
GOAL 2: School Completion. By the year 2000, the high
school graduation rate will increase to at least 90%.
GOAL 3: Student Achievement and Citizenship. By the year
2000, American students will leave grades 4, 8 and 12
having demonstrated competency in challenging subject
matter, including English, mathematics, science, history,
and geography. In addition, every school in America will
ensure that all students learn to use their minds well, so
they may be prepared for responsible citizenship, further
learning and productive employment in our modern economy.
GOAL 4: Science and Mathematics. By the year 2000, u.S.
students will be the first in the world in science and
mathematics achievement.
GOAL 5: Adult Literacy and Lifelong Learning. By the year
2000, every adult American will be literate and will possess
the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in a global
economy and exercise the rights and responsibilities of
citizenship.
