HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution-2000-0013 RESOLUTION NO. 11-2000 Series of 2000 TITLE: A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF A MULTI-YEAR GRANT APPLICA nON TO THE STATE HISTORICAL FUND FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE BAUGH HOUSE WHEREAS, the Baugh House is located at 11361 W. 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, Jefferson County, Colorado, and WHEREAS, James A. Baugh arrived in Denver ion June 1, 1859 and established a farm by August 15, 1859, and WHEREAS, land grant records indicate that Mr. Baugh built a one and a half story hand hewn, v-notched log cabin north of Clear Creek with a shingle roof, plank floor, two doors and two windows, and a stone aggregate cold storage room, and WHEREAS, subsequent owners decided to update the residence so they framed the new house around the log cabin, resulting in a log cabin imbedded in a Victorian clapboard farm house; and WHEREAS, the City of Wheat Ridge acquired the building and the surrounding parcel of property in July, 1997 for the purpose of the preservation of the historic structure; and WHEREAS, the Baugh House was listed as a Local Historic Structure on September 23, 1997; and WHEREAS, the Baugh House may be the oldest log cabin located at its original site in Colorado; and WHEREAS, the Colorado State Historical Fund has awarded the City of Wheat Ridge 2 grants for total project costs of $45,400 for the development of a Historic Needs Assessment Report and Preparation of Construction Drawings for the restoration of the Baugh House; and WHEREAS, the drawings and specifications have been prepared and submitted to the State Historical Fund for final approval; and WHEREAS, the City would like to restore the Baugh House; and WHEREAS, the Colorado State Historical Fund is accepting grant applications for funds to restore Historic Buildings. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The City of Wheat Ridge requests that the Colorado Historical Society fund its multI-year grant application for the restoration of the Baugh House.
