A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUPPORT OFTHE WHEAT RIDGE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE WADSWORTH BYPASS AND BURLINGTON NORTHERN/SANTE FE RAIL GRADE SEPARATION PROJECT, AT GRANDVIEW A VENUE,IN THE CITY OF ARV ADA. WHEREAS, the Wadsworth Bypass is the single continuous north-south link in Jefferson County, currently serving 58,000 vehicles per day, with 68,0000 vehicles per day projected by the year 2020' and, WHEREAS, its intersection with the Burlington Northern/Sante Fe (BNSF) rail line near Grandview Avenue presents a major impediment to traffic flow, and a hazard to automobile and pedestrian traffic, and, WHEREAS, trains cross the Wadsworth bypass intersection an average of 7 times per day, creating traffic stoppages lasting anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes each time, degrading regional air quality and needlessly consuming fossil fuels, and, WHEREAS, these trains can and do impede vital emergency services, disrupt the delivery of commercial goods and services, and disrupt traffic throughout the region, and, Whereas, the City of Arvada and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) have completed a study identifying an engineered solution to the aforementioned circumstances; WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Transportation Network has identified this project as the single most needed existing road improvement in Jefferson County, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY The City Council of the City of Wheat Ridge, Colorado THAT, the City of Wheat Ridge supports the construction of the Wadsworth Bypass/BNSF Grade Separation project; and, THAT, the City of Wheat Ridge City Council supports and encourages CDOT to seek Federal funding for the design, environmental review and construction of this project.
