CITY COUI1CIL MINUTES r- August 11, 1906 Page -3- the definition Also feels multi-use has not worked in the rest of the City The multi-use I'~ talking about, that we already have, is down by the truck stop and it has been a catch-all for everything that ever wanted to corne in, ano the Coru~rehensive Plan allowed it The truck stop is not industrial, but we do have it hr ~est will vote no also, won't go into a lot ot detail, but feels some of the citizens have spoken, will not dwell on subject I realize down KiplinS Street you're goin~ to have Commercial in future I'm not against that, but we've talked about opening aoors tonight, smells a rat sorlJewhere JvJr s Kell er has m i XE;a feel i ngs, but vot e s no, L,ecau se the pro blelfl she has with multi-use is, it does include density residential, hiBh density residential is not of any benefit to our City, uses tremenaous amount ot water taps, which we Gon't have n.any left, usually requires holdin6 tanks, which does not help our drainage system, ana sewer systems, congestion, traffic, problems with crime increasing, etc & etc When you have a catch-all term, it is tarder to deny a project of a larger size on high density than it would be otherwise ~:otion carried 5-3 with Councilmembers Keller, West, and horth voting No DECISIONS, fiESOLUTIONS, AND MOTIONS Item 4 Resolution 1004 - supportin6 improved library services for the City of Wheat Ridge Mrs Ibbison introduced a modified fiesolution 1004 Lillian Fleming, 6363 W 29th Avenue, read a letter from Wheat Ridge United Neighborhoods into the record, which backed nlill levy increase, but if referendum does not pass, does not want library closed Dougal Graham, 3330 Chase, spoke for Area-4 Planning Committee, stated they endorse previous statement Mr Davis will vote No, because he thinks if in the StUdy Session last Monday night there was any chance they would guarantee us anything, which he hardly doubts, he would be in favor of Resolution Seems to hi n., the y are h and 1 i n 6 t his 1 i k e s c h 0 0 1 boa r d h and 1 e sin c rea sed t a xes for schools, they intiriJiaate, threaten, if you don't vote for this, will cut off such and such, feels we should fight for our library, he is for more money going into the till, but not quite the way they are handling it Will vote against ReSOlution, but he is for the hheat fiidge library, will pledge whatever help he can to keep it Rod Johnson goes with Mr Davis' comments, does not like way they are approachins it, statea so at Study Session, by approving the Resolution we are buckling under, we need to stand tast In favor of Library, but cannot justif~ in his mind supporting something which is against all his general principals hr West will vote no, because of being under threat and inti~idation People that know him, know that does not set well with him he will work the best he can, to keep library open, but doe~ nut support increase in mill levy rr FIasco will vote no, does not buckle unuer the way they are handling this situation Asked for some int'ormation from library, but has received nothing from them, thanked Wheat Ridge Uniteo Neighborhood CITY CGU~,CIL fvJINUTES - AUt,ust 11, 1986 Page -4- because they provided the information he asked for from the library people The library board have told us they Qon't get input from Wheat fiidge When we give them input, we get no answer, so under present Resolution, I will be voting against it, but stated he supported library and will do whatever he can to keep the Wheat Ridge library not only open, but improved Mrs ~orth amendea Resolution to insert after "City of ~heat Ridge" in the third paragraph "ana WOuld urge the County to continue operating t~e library in its present location and that the library be completely maintained and services and facilities be vastly improved, even if referendun, should fail", seCondeQ by tv.r West tv.r FIasco will vote no on the amendnlent also, because asking the library people to guarantee you something to keep the library open, they have already told you they are not going to do that, ana I think the on1 y way to ur i ve point home to thelL, is not to support thell; in th is kina of hesolution hr Davis will vote No, based on the same reasons as Mr FIasco, feels by doing this, we are encouraging or asking our citizens to sit back with some kind of' guarantee that the Jef'ferson County Library board members are going to take into consideration, anyone that was sittinb at that StUdy Session last week, there was absolutely no give, if this referendum went down rebardless whether the citizens supported it, the Wheat Ridge library woula close Vote on amenament was 5-3 with Councilmembers Johnson, Davis, and FIasco voting No Vote on original motion Failea 4-4 with Councilmembers Ibbison, Keller, Merkl, and Worth voting yes I tern 5 -
