Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above
the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer
installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection
of elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project
address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof
material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

subject to the compliance with those documents, and all applicable statutes, ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures.
2. This permit shall expire 365 days after the date of issuance regardless of activity. Requests for extension must be made in writing and
received prior to the date of expiration. An extension of no more than 180 days made be granted at the discretion of the Chief Building
Official and may be subject to a fee equal to one-half of the original permit fee.
3. If this permit expires, a new permit may be required to be obtained. Issuance of a new permit shall be subject to the standard
requirements, fees and procedures for approval of any new permit. Re -issuance or extension of expired permits is at the sole discretion of
the Chief Building Official and is not guaranteed.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE

As requested, Testing Engineers, Inc. (TEI) performed the subject testing on the submitted
samples. Testing was performed in our laboratories in San Leandro, CA, utilizing a 60 kip
hlstron universal test machine (calibration traceable to N.I.S.T.).
A total of fifteen (15) assemblies were submitted for testing. A bracket was secured to the
center of a 16" square 1/:' thick plywood or %2" OSB. The bracket was placed on a bed of
bituthene and secured with four screws (sec table 1 for sample description). The
plywoodlOSB sections were secured to the bed of the test machine. An axial tensile load
was applied to the machine bolt on top.. of the bracket at a gradual rate (0.100" per min.),
until failure. Test results are as follows.

Dear Adam,
Per your request Anchor Engineering, Inc. has reviewed the roof structural framing for the above listed residence
with regards to a planned solar PV addition to the roof. To summarize, we have found it adequate to support the
code-required dead and live loads, including loads from the planned solar PV addition as configured in the
attached drawing.
A jobsite observation of the condition of the existing framing system was performed by personnel from Simple
Solar. Our review of the existing framing capacity was based on this jobsite observation and on a roof layout
provided by Simple Solar (attached).
Design criteria:
• Roof design snow load = 30 psf
• Wind load = basic wind speed of 110MPH (3-second gust) at exposure B.
• Roof structural framing = engineered 2x6 roof trusses @ 24" o.c., roof pitch = 3:12.
• NOTE: The top chord of the roof trusses below the proposed solar array must be strengthened by
nailing 8' long 2x4 "sister" joists to the existing top chords as shown in attached detail SDA. Sister
joists are not required if a truss grade stamp can be located and the allowable loads in psf are 30 (snow
load) / 50 (roof dead load) or greater.
• Solar racking system = Unirac SolarMount rails as shown on the attached Simple Solar layout. Rails
supported by Quick Mount PV standoffs.
• Connections to roof= (2) 5/16" dia. x 4" lag screws per standoff. Standoffs may be screwed to wood
blocking between the truss top chords as shown on the attached Simple Solar drawings if the standoffs do
not occur above a roof truss.
• Solar modules= Canadian Solar CS5P - 240 modules
The capacity of the roof structural framing to support the additional gravity loads imposed by the solar racking
system and modules has been reviewed in accordance with ASCE 7-05.
The capacity of the solar racking system and connections to resist the wind and gravity loads has been reviewed in

Re: Structural feasibility of re-roofing your residence at
4 Hillside Drive, Wheat Ridge (Our Job No. 8209)
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
On this date, Mark Benjamin, E.!., examined and measured the
existing roof framing at the above residence for the purpose of
determining the structural feasibility of re-roofing with new
standard weight concrete tile shingles having a maximum weight of
11.0 pounds per square foot (psf).
The existing roof framing consists of 1) custom trusses at the
family room and garage with a 24" spacing, 2 x 6 top chords sloped at
a 4:12 pitch, a 35'-11" overall span, and a 12'-2" maximum span
between supporting walls, and 2) Howe trusses at the rest of the
house with a 24" spacing, top chords sloped at a 4:12 pitch, c...,d a
35' -11" span between exterior supporting walls. There are some
rafters and porch beams which will be removed or strengthened in
conjunction with a proposed addition; we are engineer-of-record for
that project and designing it for standard weight concrete shingles.
Based on our experience performing roof framing reviews and
truss designs on over several thousand homes, it is our opinion that
the framing described above will not be overstressed if a standard
weight shingle system weighing 11.0 psf is installed.
There is a likelihood of over 1" of deflection under full 30 psf
snow load conditions. Please understand that there 1S also a
likelihood of minor deflection of the trusses which may result in
cracks in the drywall, particularly at the taped joints where the
interior partitions meet the ceiling. Some of this deflection may
occur as soon as the tile are installed. Other cracks and
deflections may occur under snow load conditions, because the maximum
mandated snow load is twice the assumed dead load for the weight of
the building materials.
When observing the above residence, we saw that the sloped or
raked edges of the roof had overhangs. In order for these overhangs
extending more than 12" to support roof loads, there have to be
cantilevered framing elements called "lookouts," which are span from
the fascia boards to the first top chord or rafter in from the gable
end wall. This is to advise you and your roofing contractor that we
could not see all of the lookouts, and accordingly, we request that
the roofers strip some of the existing shingles at these overhangs
and check to see if the roof feels soft or "spongy." If these
conditions are experienced or there is any doubt there might be an
inadequate number of lookouts, the roofer shall remove enough
sheathing to examine the overhang and then contact our office for an
opinion on whether additional lookouts or some other kind of
reinforcement is needed. Our firm cannot be responsible for the
development of sagging overhangs after the concrete shingles are
installed.
It is our opinion that the existing rocf framing will be able to
support any new concrete tile shingle having a maximum dead load of
11.0 psf without the need for additional reinforcement, provided that
the existing shingles are completely stripped off and provided that
the new shingles are installed according to their manufacturer I s
specifications. Because we are specifying shingles by weight rather
than by brand name, it may be necessary to include product brochures
