Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding A% -inch exists. Asphalt shingles are required to
be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturera€TMs installation
instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of
elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer's technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at
(project address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for
(roof material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.

I. This permit was issued based on the information provided in the pen -nit application and accompanying plans and specifications and is
subject to the compliance with those documents, and all applicable statutes, ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures.
2. This permit shall expire 365 days after the date of issuance regardless of activity. Requests for extension must be made in writing and
received prior to the date of expiration. An extension of no more than 180 days made be granted at the discretion of the Chief Building
Official and may be subject to a fee equal to one-half of the original permit fee.
If this permit expires, a new permit may be required to be obtained. Isuance of a new permit shall be subject to the standard
requirements, fees androcedures for approval of any new permit. Re -issuance or extension of expired pen -nits is at the sole discretion of
the Chief Building Official and is not guaranteed.
4, No work of any manner shall be performed that shall results in a change of the natural flow of water without prior and specific approval.
5. The permit holder shall notify the Building and Inspection Services Division in accordance with established policy of all required
inspections and shall not proceed or conceal work without written approval of such work from the Building and Inspection Services
Division.
6. The issuance or granting of a permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any provision of any
applicable code or any ordinance or regulation of this jurisdiction. Approval of work is subject to field inspection.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR PERMIT
IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE AND TIME
WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if your
contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit. Permits are currently being
processed within 3-5 business days, subject to change based on volume.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

GENERAL:
This report presents the results of data obtained during the su soil investigation of 41
HILLSIDE DRIVE, JEFFERSON COUNTY, COLORADO.
CONCLUSION AND FOUNDATION RECOMMENDATIONS:
A satisfactory type of foundation system will bear on the und turbed natural soil. In
general, both test holes consist of a sandy clay to the thirteen foot depth, and a claystone
encountered below the thirteen foot depth. Both holes were drilled t , a depth of twenty feet.

No free water was encountered during the drilling operation. e foundation shall be

designed for a maximum soil bearing pressure of 1,500 psf, for all epths of the excavated
area. The active case equivalent fluid pressure is 45 psf. All loose an disturbed soil shall be
removed before placing of the concrete for the foundation. The ttom of the foundation

shall be a minimum of three feet below final grade for frost protect" on. Settlement at this
site may be up to one inch but will most likely be less than one-half nch. Soil expansion at
this site may be as much as one inch in some areas but will probably less than half of this
amount.
SITE CONDmONS:
At the present time there is an existing residence on this site. t is our understanding
that an addition with a basement is planned for construction on the n rth and east side of the
existing residence.
FIELD AND LABORATORY INVESTIGATION:
Two exploratory test holes were drilled on June 19, 1996 at e location on the site
as shown in Figure 1. These test holes were drilled with a four inch diameter power auger.
At specific intervals, the drilling tools were removed from e test holes and soil
samples were obtained with a two inch inside diameter spoon samp ing tube. The depths
at which soil samples were taken are shown on the Logs of Test Ho es, Figure 2.
All soil samples were carefutly inspected and classified in e field and laboratory.
The samples were subjected to visual inspection and laboratory testi g in order to evaluate
the physical and mechanical properties of the materials encountered The natural moisture
content and the natural dry density was obtained from relatively un isturbed drive samples
of typical materials encountered. Swell-Consolidation tests were als performed on typical
samples of soil, see Figure 3. These tests indicate the behavior 0 the soil upon various
loading and wetted conditions.

DEsIGN AND
N
The natural soils are suitable for the support of exterior concr e slabs and basement
slabs. However, when these soils have a change e content, they may
consolidate in volume and shrink, thus lowering and cracking the con rete slabs, or they may
expand, thus heaving and cracking concrete slabs. The builder and fi ture owners should be
aware of and understand that there is a definite risk of future damage ith any slab-on-grade
construction.
If the builder and future owners are willing to accept the defini e risk of some damage
due to concrete floor slab movement, the following recommended de 'Is should be carefully
followed during construction of the interior floor slabs. Experi nce with similar soil
conditions has shown that these details will help prevent wetting of e soils under the slabs
and will minimize damage when wetting of the soil does occur.
1. Do not place a gravel layer beneath the concrete slab, u less specified by the
foundation engineer. The slab should be placed directly on he undisturbed natural
soils, or well compacted fill soil.
2. Separate the slab from all load bearing members and utility Ii es of at least one inch
to allow for independent movement of the slab. Provide a posi ive control or slip joint
at the construction joint between the slab and foundation wal s.
3. Provide frequent scoring of the slabs to provide control joints or possible cracking of
the slab. Control joints should be placed to provide approxi ate slab areas of 1 SO
square feet, with a maximum dimension between joints of
4. The soils that will support the concrete slabs should be kept mist during construction
by occasional sprinkling of water and especially a day or so prior to pouring of the

slab. This procedure will help maintain the moisture content f the underlying soil.
5. In the event the builder or future owner desires to provide d rative gravel or bark
around the addition, we have attached Figure 4 to illustrate on acceptable method of
installation. The method will prevent ponding of water ne the foundation and
provide for proper drainage away from the addition.
SURFACE DRAINAGE:
The backfill soil around the addition should be moistened
prevent future settling. The backfill material should be free of tr
rocks. The future owner must be advised to fill in any settled area
water near the addition and to provide adequate slope for proper d
addition and off the site at all times.
The finished grade or ground surface near the foundation wall should have adequate
d well compacted to
frozen soil and large
eliminate ponding of
slope to provide proper drainage away from the addition and off 0 the site. A minimum
slope of ten percent for at least the first five feet out from the addi ion is recommended.
Roof downspouts and sill cocks should discharge onto long concrete splashblocks,
minimum of five feet long, or into metal gutter extensions to depo it runoff water further
out from the addition and beyond the limits of backfill soil near the foundation walls.
The future owners should be cautioned and advised against e installation of a lawn
sprinkler system within five feet of the foundation walls. If a spri er system is installed,
the sprinkler heads should be placed so that water spray from the h s under full pressure
does not fall within five feet of the foundation walls. Lawn irrigati n should be controlled
to prevent excess wetting of the subsurface soils. Lawn, flowers, sh bs, and other plantings
within five feet of the foundation walls should be hand watered and is watering should be

minimized. If a drip irrigation system is used, one should limit e amount of water to
sustain the plantings. One is also advised that any irrigation lines
release excessive amounts of water near foundatiOllS and can
foundation walls.

No free water was encountered during the drilling of the test oles. The requirement
for subsurface (perimeter) foundation drains will be determined at th time of the open hole
observation. See Figure 5 for a suggested method of installing e foundation drainage
system. Ground water should not affect construction or be a deterr t to the construction of
the addition with a basement.
REINFORCING:
The concrete foundation walls should be weD reinforced at
walls to clear span at least a distance of ten feet. This wi\l give the
span or bridge over any soft or loose pockets of soil not found in
top and bottom of the
ails, beam strength, to
r exploratory holes or
that may develop during construction. This will also help prevent . erential movements of
the foundation system. Refer to the foundation plan for specific detail of reinforcement. The
foundation plan is not a part of this soils report, and the exact requ rements are a function
of the design of the structure.
TOPOGRAPHY:
The topography of this site is that of an incline sloping down t wards the north at 3%.
Test hole number one is two feet higher than test hole number two.

WEATHKK:
The weather at the time of the soil examination consisted of unny skies, with warm
temperatures.
CONSTRUcnON DETAll.S:
In any soil investigation it is necessary to assume that the su surface soil conditions
do not vary greatly from the conditions encountered in our field and aboratory testing. Our
experience has been that at times soil conditions do change and vari ions do occur and may
become apparent to the time of excavation for the foundation syste . If soil conditions are
encountered which appear different from the test borings as prese ted in this report, it is
required that this office or a qualified soils engineer be called to i ct the open excavation.
This inspection is not a part of this report and is not included as an part thereof.
OPEN HOLE OBSERV A nON:
The owner, or a representative of the construction firm, shall c ntact Colorado Soil and
Percolation Tests, Inc., a minimum of twenty four hours prior to di ing of the foundation
excavation to schedule an open hole -observation. This observation m st be performed before
the placement of concrete, and preferable to the setting of the forms This observation will
insure that soft spots, anomalies, etc. are not present in location which will affect the
foundation.
At the time of the observation, the requirement for subs ace drainage will be
established. Additionally, the maximum allowable bearing press re of the soil may be
revised according to the soil conditions exposed.
