All review is based on these observations and the design criteria listed below and only deemed valid if provided information is true and accurate. On the above referenced project, the roof structural framing has been reviewed for additional loading due to the installation of the solar PV addition to the roof. The structural review only applys to the section of the roof that is directly supporting the solar PV system and its supporting elements. The observed roof framing is described below. If field conditions differ, contractor to notify engineer prior to starting construction. The roof structure of (Roof 1) consists of composition shingle on roof plywood that is supported by 2x6 rafters @ 24"o.c. paired with 2x6 ceiling joists @ 24"o.c.. The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of T-6", with a slope of 18 degrees. The rafters are connected at the ridge to a ridge board and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall. The rafters have an interio r 2x4 purlin with diagonal struts at no more than 48" o.c. as an interior support. The existing roof framing system of (Roof 1) is judged to be adequate to withstand the loading imposed by the installation of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary. The spacing of the solar standoffs should be kept at 48" o.c. for landscape and 48" o.c. for portrait orientation, with a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loads. The scope of this report is strictly limited to an evaluation of the fastener attachment, underlying framing and supporting structure only. The attachment's to the existing structure are required to be in a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loading. All panels, racking and hardware shall be installed per manufacturer specifications and within specified design limitations. All waterproofing shall be provided by the manufacturer. Domus Structural Engineering assumes no responsibility for misuse or improper installation of the solar PV panels or racking. Design Criteria: • Applicable Codes = 2012 IBC/IRC, ASCE 7-10, and NDS -12 • Roof Dead Load = 8 psf (Roof 1) • Roof Live Load = 20 psf • Wind Speed = 135 mph, Exposure C, Risk Category II • Roof Snow Load = 30 psf • Attachments: (1) 5/16" dia lag screw with 2.5" min embedment depth, at spacing shown above. The Flush Mount System is a proprietary rooftop mounting system used to support photovoltaic (PV) modules installed in portrait or landscape orientation and set parallel to the underlying roof surface. PV modules are supported by extruded aluminum XR Rails and secured to the rails with IronRidge mounting clamps. The XR Rails are side mounted to a selected roof attachment with 3/8" stainless steel bonding hardware and then attached directly to the roof structure or to a stanchion that is fastened to the underlying roof structure. The Flush Mount System is designed as a Risk Category II structure as defined by ASCE 7-10 Chart 1.5-1 2. When designing with a roof slope not listed in the span tables, but no greater than 45°, the lesser of the two span values listed immediately below and above the desired slope shall be used. For instance, if one is designing to a roof slope of 120, use the lesser of the two span values associated with 10° and 150. 3. The wind speed selection shall conform to ASCE 7-10 Fig. 26.5-1A (Risk Category II wind) and any state & local county/city amendments to the IBC. Fire classification 2.0 USES The Patio Enclosures, Inc., Super-Foam Roof System, described in this report. is used as structural roof panels of patio covers complying with Appendix I 01 the IBC, Appendix H of the IRC, or Division 111 of Appendix 31 of the UBC, as applicable. 3.0 DESCRIPTION 3.1 General: The Patio Enclosures, Inc., Super-Foam roof system consists of roof panels and aluminum framing members which are field-installed in the longitudinal joints of adjacentroofpanels. Each roof panel is a factory-assembled sandwich panel consisting of aluminum facings adhered to an expanded polystyrene loam plastic core. The panels are 36 inches (914 mm) wide and have nominal thicknesses of3,45/50(6 inches (76,117 or 152 mm). 3.2 Materials: 3.2.1 Core: The core material is Falcon Foam, A Division of Atlas Roofing, expanded polystyrene foam plastic boards as recognized In ICC-ES evaluation report ESR-1962 (formerly ICC-ES legacy report ER-4059). The foam plastic has a nominal density of 1.5 pcf (24 kglm'); and a fiame-spread rating of25 or less, and a smoke-density rating of 450 or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM E-84. 3.2-2 Facings: The facing material on both sides 01 the panel is 0,024~nch-thick (0,61 mm) aluminum with an alloy design ation of 31 05-H274, conforming to the requirements lor 3105-H16 as designated in ASTM B 209, with a minimum tensile strength of 25 ksi (170 MPa) and a minimum yield strength of 21 ksi (145 MPa). 3.2.3 Adhesive: The facings are factory-adhered to the core with Rohm and Haas Company Mor-Ad M.o47 adhesive, recognized as a Type II, Class 2, adhesive in evaluation report ER-5831. 3.2-4 Sealant: The sealant shall be Dow Corning 795 silicone seajant 3.2.5 Framing Members: Framing members that are field- installed between adjacent roof paneis along the longitudinal joint 01 the panels are solid, extruded, aluminum l-shaped members. The aluminum has an alloyandtemperdesignation of 6063- T6 complying with ASTM B 209. See Figure 1 for additional details. 3.2.6 Fasteners: The fasteners used to attach the framing members to the longitudinal edges 01 the roof panels and used to attach the framing members to panel supports. as described in Section 3.2, shall be '/2~nch~ong (12.7 mm), No, 8 hex-head, self-tapping, self-drilling, stainless steel, sheet metal screws having an ultimate torsional strength of 42 inch- pounds (4.74 N. m), ultimate tensile strength of 1575 pounds (7006 N), and ultimate shear strength of 1000 pounds (4448 N). 4.0 INSTALLATION The panels shall be installed in such a manner that the panel length is continuous between supports, wi1h no transverse joints. The roof panel longitudinal seam shall be located a minimum of 24 inches (608 mm) from the inside face of the wall parallel to the panel length. The panels shall be installed at the minimum rool slope noted in Tables 1, 2 and 3, to prevent pondlng. Supports of the panel and longitudinal framing member assembly shall provide a minimum 1..oinch- wide (25.4 mm) continuous bearing width at support points, for gravity and wind uplift loads. The l-beamscan be attached to the top track of the wall assembly in accordance with Figure 3, For other methods of panel support,.the effects of the support on the panel performance shall be substantiated to the satisfaction 01 the building official.
