Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Asphalt shingles are required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6•nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection. The garage was constructed and a certificate of occupancy was requested in early April 2004. After a site inspection, it was determined that the new driveway used to service the garage was not abutting the existing edge of the Harlan Street pavement. The Code of Laws requires that all new dri veway connections must abut the existing edge of asphalt. The issued building permit included a note which states: "For one. or two-family dwellings, the first twenty-five feet (25') of driveway area from the existing edge of pavement into the site shall be surfaced with concrete, asphalt, brick pavers or similar materials." Additionally, attempts were made to notify of the deficiency in mid-April 2004, after the site inspection. The certificate of occupancy has not been issued, and cannot be issued until the driveway connection has been made properly. Please contact the building department within fifteen days of the date of this letter to discuss the issue. Failure to do so may result in future code enforcement action.
