A jobsite observation of the condition of the existing framing system was performed by an audit team of Blue Raven Solar as a
request from Domus Structural Engineering. All review is based on these observations and the design criteria listed below and
only deemed valid if provided information is true and accurate.
On the above referenced project, the roof structural framing has been reviewed for additional loading due to the installation of
the solar PV addition to the roof. The structural review only applies to the section of the roof that is directly supporting the
solar PV system and its supporting elements. The observed roof framing is described below. If field conditions differ, contractor
to notify engineer prior to starting construction.
The roof structures of (MP1,4&5) consist of composition shingle on 1x decking that is supported by 2x6 rafters @ 24"o.c.
paired with 2x6 ceiling joists @ 24"o.c.. The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of V-2", with a slope of 22 degrees.
The rafters are connected at the ridge to a ridge board and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall.
The roof structure of (MP2) consists of composition shingle on roof plywood that is supported by nominal 2x6 rafters @
12"o.c.. The rafters support a vaulted ceiling and have a max projected horizontal span of 10'-0", with a slope of 9.5 degrees.
The rafters are supported at both ends by a load bearing wall.
The roof structure of (MP3) consists of composition shingle on 1x decking that is supported by nominal 2x6 rafters @ 16"o.c.
paired with 2x6 ceiling joists @ 16"o.c.. The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of 10'-5", with a slope of 22 degrees.
The rafters are connected at the ridge to a ridge board and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall.
The existing roof framing systems of (MP1,4&5) are judged to be adequate to withstand the loading imposed by the installation
of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary.

distribution of loading. All panels, racking and hardware shall be installed per manufacturer specifications and within specified
design limitations. All waterproofing shall be provided by the manufacturer. Domus Structural Engineering assumes no
responsibility for misuse or improper installation of the solar PV panels or racking.

4. The PV production meter shall be located within

Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding k/2-inch exists. Asphalt shingles are required to
be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield is
required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturera€'Ms installation
instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of
elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer's technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at
(project address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for
(roof material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.

Yesterday I received some information I requested from you on 6/8/12 however there is no information on the
combustion air and door requirements for the water heater room.
I also need from the engineer, a letter stating that he actually ins ected the foundation of the garage and that it
has a footing and stein wall which is required for a habitable space unless the slab is post tensioned and tile
ground around the slab is insulated correctly.
Once I receive this information I can complete my plan review.

In response to the bathroom water heater door, we are going to put in a solid wood door,
sealed with smoke seal and threshold seal. There will be two outside air intakes, 4 inches
