**For trenchless sewer replacements - The contractor will verify proper slope of new sewer
piping in conformance with the IRC and IPC of 1/4 inch per foot unless otherwise allowed
specifically by the applicable code. The plumbing contractor will provide verification of

Work shall comply with 2012 IRC & 2017 NEC. Per IRC Sec. R314, smoke detectors are required
to be installed in every sleeping room, in hallways outside of sleeping rooms, and on every
level of the structure.

you could use I x 12~s for soffits. Otherwise, rip plywood into approxi-.
mately 12" for soffit. Like the siding, it is very inlportant to prirne
all of the trirn the inside as well as the outside, with an oil base
primer paint. Use a second coat if the first coat doesn't appear to be a
good seal. for this effort is never having peeling paint later on.
Before finistling the front and rear wall soffits, the upper end walls
must be cOll1pieted, l~'it and notch the upper wall studs. Drill lead holes
for 16-penny ;;pikes if ends tend to split while nailing them in place.
Frame straiglE through if you don't want a loft door. If you like the ap-
pearance but con,t want to use the door, run siding as for a plain \vall and

Fig. 6), Keeping inside the gusset lines, you can nail down enough of the
flooring to make the joists more stable and give you an area to make it
easy to handle the roof frames and nail them to the joists. Fasten thor-
oughly with 6-penny nails. For now, keep flooring a wa y from end frames
until end wall frames are filled in (see Fig. 5). Now you will be able to
brace frames to the floor. As soon as you have seven frames set from one
end, stabilize with a couple of sheets of plywood nailed to the roof rafters.
You may need to set more roof frames if you are using ship-lap or I), &
M. boards for roof sheathing. The lower edge of the roof sheathing
should extend 2" below the top surface of the 2 x 6 joists. Note that roof
sheathing extends 12%" beyond end wall frames (12" if lower end walls

plumb, When you have sheathed the roof, bevel 1 x 6's for the 20 feet of

Start the upper rear wall at the right and work across (see Figs. 17 and 18
for side panels and' Figs. 15 and 16 for center panels). Note that the siding
panels start at your left for the front wall and at the right (as you face it) for
the rear wall. Where you want a door, save the cut out pieces and nail a
plywood batten across the center joint (Fig. 9).
With the upper end siding in place, you can make the lower 2 x 4 inner
face rafters and the 1 x 4 cleat rafter from the full-size pattern at left. l'he
upper rafters for the front and rear roof overhang are detailed in Fig. 19.
Refer to Fig. 7 that shows how these parts are nailed to the siding back
under the roof sheathing and to the underside of the edge of the roof
sheathing. Cap the roof edge with the 1 x 6 and I x 3 trim. Cut according
to the full-size pattern, lower left, and be sure that the four sides are
primed before nailing in place. lJse galvanized or aluminun1 nails to avoid
having rust stains. Underneath the roof overhang, fit Y2" plywood soffits.

balanced shingle pattern you should cut }'g" off the first tab of a 3-in-1
shingle. This will end the row with a half-tab which will also be about}'g"
undersize.
Set windows in place. Slip in spacers, plumb, and nail in place. Prime
and caulk. Because of the grooves in the plywood, you must fill the
grooves above the windows and the door head trim. Make little pieces of
wood that will slide into these grooves; then coat these blocks and
grooves with caulking and push blocks into grqoves. Prime or first-coat
area; then run a bead of non-hardening synthetic rubber base caulking
over window and door heads. J~roceed with final painting.
