A field observation was performed to document the existing framing of the above mentioned
address. From the field observation, the existing roof structure was observed as Composition
Shingle roofing over roof plywood supported by 2x4 Truss @ 24" OC. The roof is sloped at
approximately 21 degrees and has a max truss top chord span of 6' 2" between truss web
members.
Design Criteria:
• 2012 International Building Code
• Basic Wind Speed Vult = 135 mph (Vasd = 105 mph), Exposure C
• Ground Snow Load = 30 psf
After review of the field observation report, the existing roof framing supporting the proposed
solar panel layout has been determined to meet or exceed the requirements based on our
structural capacity calculations in accordance with applicable building codes. Therefore, no
structural upgrades are required.

Per your request, I have sized the plates for the openings to be cut in an existing masonry
wall at 3424 Kendall, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Observations:
According to the architectural drawings submitted, (2) 55" wide x 52" tall windows and
(1) 36" wide x 80" tall door are to be cut into the existing masonry walls, The windows
are to be cut into a wall which supports the roof. The door is to be cut into a wall which
carries no roofload, only the brick self weight.
Recommendations:
Each window opening will need to be supported using a 1-3/8" thick x 6" wide x 3' 8"
long plate, with 4" of bearing (minimum) on each end, The door opening is to be
supported by a Yz" thick x 6" wide x 3'8" long plate, with 4" of bearing at each end. The
bearing section should be sealed so that water, wind or rain will no penetrate into the
wall. The contractor is responsible for temporary support of the masonry wall during
construction.
