The permits were approved by Jefferson County in the 1960s for the additional kitchen which is located in a large 2,400 square foot addition to the house. The permits did not allow the creation of a separate dwelling unit in the addition, but did allow a new kitchen, den, utility room, workshop, and upstairs bedrooms. The provided floor plan clearly shows the addition is attached to the original house with at least two doorways connecting the two spaces. Staff has concluded that there is no evidence of a second dwelling unit being permitted for this property. The second kitchen was formally approved by Jefferson County and may remain. The house must function as a single-family home only and is therefore subject to occupancy requirements for a single dwelling unit. The property is zoned Residential -One B (R-1 B) and is only permitted to have one (1) dwelling unit on the property.
