Observations of Suspect Asbestos -Containing Materials at the Site was conducted by a Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Certified Asbestos Firm, and Asbestos Building Inspector. On the exterior of home there was no debris observed on the ground and to the dumpster area. No suspect debris was found inside the dumpster at the time of inspection. However, in the bathroom area, the existing drywall tested and analyzed was found to contain 2% asbestos material. Approximately 50 square feet of the purple drywall and associated texture was removed. The existing flooring located in the bathroom and hall area will remain in place for renovation, or it may be removed. The floor tile did not contain asbestos material. MTS transported and submitted samples to EMSL Laboratory for analysis by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) methods on a Rush turnaround analysis to identify whether the suspect material(s) contains asbestos. Sampling and Analytical Procedures for this inspection and assessment was performed in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act (AHERA) recommended procedures. Random bulk samples, representative of the suspect asbestos -containing building materials (ACBM) of each homogeneous area (HA), were collected according to the guidelines published as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Final Rule: Title II of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), 15 USC, Sections 2641 through 2654 and in compliance with 40 CFR, Part 763. Representative sampling is based on the following criteria: 1. The distribution of the suspect material throughout the HA. 2. The suspect material's physical characteristics and application. 3. Random sampling patterns determined for each HA. Suspect materials sampled and analyzed should be considered representative of materials in each HA if 1. They exhibit similar physical characteristics; and 2. The application of the sampled material can be correlated to the application of un -sampled material. Friable ACM means any material that contains asbestos and when dry can be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by hand pressure and that contains more than one percent asbestos by weight, area or volume. A nonfriable material may become friable if its condition had deteriorated or has been impacted by forces that have rendered it friable. Bulk samples collected were analyzed utilizing the EPA's Method for the determination of Asbestos in Bulk Building Materials (EPA 600/R/116, July, 1993) and the McCrone Research Institute's The Asbestos Particle Atlasas methods references. Analysis of the bulk samples was performed on the "date reported," as listed in the bulk -sample analysis report. Sampling Quantities MTS collected at least the required minimum number of samples from each homogeneous area necessary to meet all regulatory requirements for the quantity of material to be disturbed. The quantities listed in this report are approximate and on-site verification of the exact quantity of each material is required. The following outlines the minimum sample quantities required per homogeneous area: Surfacing Materials (SM): up to 1,000 ft2 of material requires a minimum of three (3) samples; between 1,000 Wand 5,000 ft2 of material requires a minimum of five (5) samples; over 5,000 ft2 of material requires a minimum of seven (7) samples; one (1) sample of each patch Thermal System Insulation (TSI): each homogeneous area requires a minimum of three (3) samples; at least one (1) sample must be collected from each patch; and collect enough samples sufficient to adequately assess the material and determine the asbestos content for TSI fittings such as pipe elbows or T's. Suspect materials were divided into three classifications: Surfacing material (SM): sprayed or troweled onto structural building member. Thermal systems insulation (TSI): any type of pipe, boiler, tank, or duct insulation.
