1. This permit was issued in accordance with the provisions set forth in your application and is subject to the laws of the
State of Colorado and to the Zoning Regulations and Building Codes of Wheat Ridge, Colorado or any other applicable
ordinances of the City.
2. This permit shall expire 180 days from the issue date. Requests for an extension must be received prior to expiration
date. An extension may be granted at the discretion of the Building Official.
3. If this permit expires, a new permit may be acquired for a fee of one -half the amount normally required, provided no
changes have been or will be made in the original plans and specifications and any suspension or abandonment has not
exceeded one (1) year. If changes have been or if suspension or abandonment exceeds one (1) year, full fees shall
be paid for a new permit.
4. No work of any manner shall be done that will change the natural flow of water causing a drainage problem.
5. Contractor shall notify the Building Inspector twenty -four (24) hours in advance for all inspections and shall receive
written approval on inspection card before proceeding with successive phases of the job.
6. The issuance of a permit or the approval of drawings and specifications shall not be construed to be a permit for, nor
an approval o any violation of the provisions of the building codes or any other ordinance, law, rule or regulation.

Dear Bill:
Thank you for the opportunity to examine the roof framing system at the above address to
determine the acceptability for the installation of a new Photovoltaic Electrical system. We
examined the attic to see the roof supports, the house for existing cracks from other
movements and the exterior. There are always areas that are not observable and we attempted
to determine the framing method in those locations.

The front portion of the house is too weak to support a solar array. The model below shows
the existing conditions.

Both the deflection and bending moment are too high for the span. The correction is to add a
rafter tie across the roof as shown in the model below. This model also shows the array.
The repair is to add a 72" section of 2x4 between the rafters under the portion of the roof that
has the array. This can be done by placing plywood down in the attic and sliding a worker on
the plywood to get to the rafters. The repair is as follows:
1. Cut the ends of a 72" section of 2x4 to match the rafter slope.
2. Install the rafter tie across the space between the rafters.
3. The connection is to be plated with a sandwich of 1/2" Plywood.
4. The plywood is to be 12" on each side.
5. The plywood is to be glued using OSI PL-400, PL-Plus, PL-pro or Gorilla Glue applied according
to the glue manufacturer's instructions.
6. Install the top edge of the plywood plates over the top chord members.
7. The plywood is to be attached using a minimum of 4 nails from each side with minimum 8d nails
into each member.
8. The nails can be pneumatically driven.
9. Apply the second plate and drive it on with a hammer then finish by install the balance of the nails.
10.It may be necessary to tighten up the plate with a hammer during installation.

GENERAL NOTES:
· THE PURPOSE FOR THIS HOME OWNER WIRING MODIFICATION IS TO UP DATE THE EXISTING
<DO YEAR OLD WIRING SYSTEM. MUCH OF WHICH IS FABRIC WRAPPED TWO WIRE.
· THE PLAN WILL REPLACE AN EXIS TING INADEQUATE BREAKER BOX WITH A NEW SERVICE ENTRANCE
TO INCLUDE A SERVICE DISCONNECT AND NEW METER HOUSING.
· SCATTERED HANGING CABLES AND A JUNCTION BOX IN THE CRAWL SPACE WILL BE REMOVED.
· NEW TWO WIRE WITH GROUND CABLE WILL BE STRUNG TO REPLACE THE OLD TWO WIRE.
· THE CRAWL SPACE WILL RECEIVE A NEW DEDICATED CIRCUIT WITH A GFCI OUTLET AND TWO SWITCHED CONVENIENCE LIGHTS.
· A TANGLE OF OLD CABLES IN THE CRAWL SPACE WILL BE REMOVED. AND/OR ORGANIZED FOR STAPLING TO JOISTS.
· MISCELLANEOUS EXISTING NON-GFCI YARD CABLES AND OUTLETS WILL BE REMOVED.
· EACH BEDROOM WILL BE ON A DEDICATED ARC F AUL T BREAKER.
· AS MUCH OLD WIRE AS POSSIBLE WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE STRUCTURE.
