Re: Drywall Samples
PLM17-011
Mr. Dorsey,
Attached are the results of Polarized Light Microscopic (PLM) analysis for asbestos contained in the bulk
sample materials submitted to this facility on 1/11/2017
Bulk samples are analyzed in accordance with USEPA test method EPA/600/M4-82-020 and EPA/600/R-
1493/116, which requires that distinctly different materials or layers present within a sample be analyzed and
, reported separately. (For measurement uncertainty, refer to table 2.1 in EPA/600/R-93/116 method.)
Sometimes it is not possible to completely separate thin or strongly adhering layers, such as paint or
adhesive, and a combined result is given. For some complex materials, such as drywall/tape/mud joints, a
composite or overall asbestos content may be reported in addition to individual layer results. RIVET, Inc. is
currently accredited for bulk asbestos analysis by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program
(NVLAP) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Our NVLAP laboratory code number
is 200448-0.
Due to the limitations of the EPA 600 Method, nonfriable organically bound materials (N Bs) such as floor
tiles can be difficult to analyze via PLM. EPA recommends that all NOBs reported as non -detect by PLM
analysis be further analyzed by Transmission Electron Microscopy for more definitive results. Please note
that the PLM analysis of dust and soil samples for asbestos is not covered under NVLAP accreditation.
The analytical results provided in this report apply only to the samples submitted to the laboratory, This
report is confidential. Details of this report will not be discussed with any person or agency not associated
with you or your organization. This report must be reproduced in its entirety and shall not be copied in part
or used by the client to claim product endorsement by NVLAP or any agency of the U.S. Government.
Samples will be held for a minimum of sixty days unless longer storage is requested, If you have any
questions regarding the content of this report please call RNET, Inc. at 303-296-6022,

Subject: Revisions to Framing Schemes
4181 West Everett Drive
Wheat Ridge, Colorado
Mickey and Schneider, Inc. Job No. 92014
Dear Mr. Veeder:
This is to supplement our letter dated May 11, 1992. We were
contacted by your contractor, David Reusch, to modify the framing
for the remodel work, principally to provide more open space for
a billard table in the basement.
The attached sketch indicates the required beam and post framing.
Additional comments follow:
1. If possible, it would be desirable to provide 2 continuous
Micro=Lam members at the roof level, and add a 3rd member
at the 16 ft. span.
2. Provide solid wood blocking on each side of the 12" deep steel
beam. You may use either sawn lumber and plywood combinations,
or Micro=Lam material, but the blocking must bear onto the
bottom flange of the beam. Connect the blocking to the web
of the steel beam with \" diameter through bolts at 24" oc.
Provide joist hangers on all joists to connect to the blocking.
We hope you will call if there are any questions or if we may be
of any further service.
Sincerely,
MICKEY AND SCHNEIDER, INC.

subject: Partial Structural Design of Proposed Remodeling
4181 West Everett Drive
Wheat Ridge, Colorado
Dear Mr. Veeder:
At the request of Bob Howell we visited the subject site at about
4:00 p.m. on May 7, 1992. We were accompanied by Bob Howell and
Kim English.
The purpose of our visit was to view the existing structure in
light of proposed structural alterations and remodeling. The
house was reportedly built in about 1953. The one story ranch
style house has a 2 car attached garage on the northeast corner.
The house has horizontal wood siding and a wood shake shingle
roof. There is a full basement under the main (east) portion
of the house, and the master bedroom wing apparently is built
over a crawl space. The basement foundation is built with
concrete block units, and is apparently supported by conventional
spread footings. For the purposes of this report, the house is
assumed to face east.
Our services were expressly limited to evaluation and design
of the following items:
1. Rafters over the living room and kitchen to create a
vaulted or sloped ceiling.
2. Roof beam above the existing wall which is presently
between the living room and the kitchen. This wall will be
removed during the remodeling.
3. Floor beam beneath the above-described roof beam.
This beam will be at the west side of the existing stairs, and
these stairs will be removed.
4. Roof beam south from the beam described in Paragraph
NO. 2 above, at the southeast corner of the living room. The
'subject beam can span up to 11'-10".

GREIG VEEDER
Page 2
We understand that a new "L" shaped stair will be built into
the northeast corner of the existing laundry room. If you
should require any structural design in regard to this modification,
please advise us and we can help as needed.
We have assumed in our evaluation and this report that an experienced
carpenter will perform the modification work. Therefore, we
will abbreviate our comments and will not provide any sketches
or drawings. If you or your carpenter have any concerns or
questions, do not hesitate to call.
RAFTERS OVER LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN:
The existing roof is "conventionally" framed as a tied rafter
system with 2x6@24" rafters.
The ceiling may be removed in the living room and/or the kitchen
to expose the sloped rafters. Add a new 2x8 rafter alongside
each 2x6@24" and nail the rafters together with l6d nails @ 16".
The new 2x8's must be Douglas Fir - Larch No.2 and better.
The new 2x8's will need to be cut to fit over the exterior
bearing walls alongside the 2x6's, and must bear onto the stud
walls. Secure each 2x8 to the exterior wall with one Simpson
H2.5 hurricane tie.
The new 2x8's should butt into the existing Ix ridge board, and
should be cut horizontal at their bottom ends to bear onto the
roof beams described in Paragraphs No.2 and 4 below.
As discussed, we suggest that the new ceiling be of 5/8" sheetrock
due to the 24" centers between rafters.
ROOF BEAM BETWEEN LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN:
This proposed new roof beam will span about 16 ft., and should
be either 2-1 3/4" x 14" MICRO=LAMS, or 3-1 3/4" x 11 7/8"
MICRO=LAMS. Nail all multiple MICRO=LAMS together with 2 rows
of l6d nails at 12" o.c. from both sides (typical). Bear the
new beam onto a minimum of 3-2x4 studs each end.
The new beam must be positioned above the existing wall in order
to transfer its post loads down into the bearing wall in the
basement level. The beam may be placed up under the ridge to
directly support the rafters (verify that the ridge occurs above
this location), or can be placed about 8 feet above the main
floor level and then a cripple or pony wall can be built between
the beam and the ridge.

GREIG VEEDER
Page 3
Obviously, temporary shoring will be required during all
demolition and remedial work. If you or your carpenter have
any questions or desire any advice, please call.
FLOOR BEAM AT WEST SIDE OF EXISTING STAIRS:
The proposed new floor beam should consist of 3-1 3/4" x 11 7/8"
HICRO=LAM members. support the beam with two 3" diameter (11 gauge)
adjustable steel pipe columns each end. This beam has been
designed for a 16 ft. span.
We assume you will want to install the new beam into a flush
configuration. Shore the existing living room floor joists and
then attach them to the face of the new beam with Simpson HUS28
joist hangers.
Frame the floor over the old stairwell with new 2xlO@16", and
attach them to the new beam with Simpson U210 hangers.
ROOF BEAM AT SOUTHEAST CORNER OF LIVING ROOM:
Install a beam consisting of 2,...1 3/4" x 11 7/8" MICRO=LAMS,
and bear on a minimum of 2-2x4 studs each end. This beam has
been designed for a span up to 11' -10" .
Other details are to be similar as described in Paragraph No. 2
above.
Again, please call if you have any questions or if we may be
of any further service.
Sincerely.
