It is our understanding that the new header will be a 4-1 %"x9y," L VL beam. The header will bear through a pressure treated plate, on to the exterior hrick and interior block of the existing wall. The new header should be nailed securely into the existing top-of-wall plate for lateral stability. It is our understanding that one window will be widened to 59 inches, the other to 55 inches. We also understand that the window sills will be lowered. Since the'openings will be made wider, the existing headers will be too short and will need to be replaced. It is our opinion that the following modifications should be made to the existing framing so that the structure will meet current building code requirements: .
