for the purpose of tdetermining the structural adequacy of
said roof 'framing. Structural design criteria includes:
building code is 2006 International Residential Code (IRC)

The existing front patio cover roof framing consists
of 2 x 2 purlins with a 20 spacing, sloped at a flat
pitch, and spans of 1 78" between rafters composed of 2x2
wood members with a 1 -1/2" x 11/2" x 1/8" angle screwed
to the with i(3) screws, with a 20" spacing, a 1:12
pitch and 'a 6-10" span tbetweenia similar angle at the
front with a 5' -0" maximum span; the rear patio cover roof
framing consists of 2 x 2 purlins with a 30" maximum
spacing, sloped at a``flat pitch, and spans of 3' -6
between rafters composed of light gauge steel trusses that
were currently collapsed and "damaged, beyond repair, that
had a 3' -6" spacing, a 1:12 `pitch and an 8 -4" span between
a similar but taller truss at the front with a 6' -3"
maximum span. Both patio covers were supported by thin
decorative steel posts with visible rusting. I performed
computer analyses on several of the special trusses and on
portions of the roof framing.
It is my opinion that the existing front and rear
patio cover roof framing will not be able to support the
maximum loads imposed as specified in paragraph one. The
Engineered for the way you build
... Designed for the way you live.
members that are damaged, such as the rear trusses and
rusting members, will need to be replaced to support the
loads as specified by the current IRC. The members that
are not damaged, such as the 2x2 purlins, 2x2 /steel angle
rafters, and the steel angle rafter /truss supports, are
not adequate to support the loads as specified by the
current IRC.
Inasmuch as the site review of an existing structure
for the purpose of observing the structural conditions
requires that certain assumptions be made regarding
existing conditions, and because some of these assumption
may not be verifiable without expending additional sums of
money or destroying otherwise adequate or serviceable
portions of the building, the client agrees that, except
for negligence on the part of the Engineer, the Client
will hold harmless, indemnify and defend the Engineer from
and against any and all claims arising out of the
professional services the Engineer provides, with the
codicil that if conditions not identified in this report
are discovered during subsequent inspections or repair
work, this engineer should be contacted for appropriate
re- evaluation and recommendations.
Thank you for retaining our firm to perform this
structural evaluation service.
Very truly yours,

The following items need to be added to the construction plans.
1 Need to provide a legible cave attachment (N18) and I'm not sure which one you wish to
use.
2 N18 states "must comply with N21" and N21 is crossed out on plans.
3 N34 states "wood studs 16" on center, need detail for 24" on center.
4 Single span attached and cantilevered drawings are hi- lighted, which one goes where?
5 Item 4 also shows "minimum Yz" per foot slope and specifications on plot plan show %" per
foot.
6 Provide elevations showing header height.
7 N18 top mount will require an engineer letter pertaining to dead /live loads on truss tail.
Once I have the above items I can proceed with your plan review.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

IGrk,
Per your request:
1. "Eave attachmenfArVe are going to use detail N27 for attachment to house instead of N18. The
exterior of house currently has a 1x6 beneath the eave and that is where we will attach. Using
#10 x 3" wood screws, 6° on center, the screw will pass through the trim and penetrate the 2x4
top plate of the house wall.
2. "Must comply with N21 ' -This is not applicable now due to change to N27
3. "Wood studs 16" on center"- Not applicable due to attachment to double plate of wall on exterior
house wall.
4. "Single Span attached " - Lets use Single Span Attached Cantilevered Structure for both front
and back. My cantilever will be less than T beyond 3x8 headers.
5. "slope'- the slope for both covers will be Y" per foot per specs.
6. "Elevations" - See attached
7. "N18 top mounf'- Not applicable due to change to N27.
hope this clears up any questions and thank you for your thoroughness on the review.
If you need any more information, let me know 303 - 805 -7809
