Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) requires an approved inspection
prior to installation of ANY roof coverings and is require on the entire roof when spaced
or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above
the roof eave and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
Roof ventilation is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer
installation instructions, whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection
of elastomeric or similar type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the
manufacturer technical representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project
address) has been applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof
material brand name) roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final
inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

2.0 DESCRIPTION
2,1 GeneraL .
The San Juan Products swimming pools and spas consist of
one-piece fiberglass construction, shop-fortned over a mold.
The model numbers and sizes are shown on Table 1. All
references to pools in this report appty also to spas.
The fiberglass pool is formed against a one-piece interior
form or mold in the following manner. The form is treated with
a parting agent to ensure separation of the liner from the mold
after fabrication. An isophthalidneopentyl-glycol gel coating
30 mils (0.8 mm) thick is spray-applied to the surface of the
form. A fiberglass hand layup consisting of a 1'/z-ounce (40
g) reinforcing mat of randomcFwpped strands of fiberglass is
applied to the cured gel coating, which is then heated with a
100% pure vinylesier polyester resin applied with a 35
percant minimum saturation factoc A second layer consisting
of t'l,ounce (40 g) reinforcing mat is laid over the previous
layer and saiurated with a 100% pure vinylester resin. The
third layer consistirg of a 24-ounce (700 g) woven roving is
applied over the previous construction and saturated with
another coating of a t00qo pure vinylester resin. The process
of altemating layers of fiberglass mat and woven roving
satureted with resin is continued until a total of five layers has
been built up. The completed pool has a minimum cured
thickness of '!,a inch (4.8 mm). Tha woven mving and
reinforcing mats are applied so that the lapped splices
between the individual rolls of the material occur ffi the same
locations and are 6 to 8 inches (152 to 203 mm) wide. This
provides an additionai thickness (a total of 10 plies) to the
liner in the form of periodic stiffening elements. The fiberglass
has an average tensile s[rength of 25,452 pounds per square
inch (175:47 MPa) and a- modulus of rupture of 40,005
pounds per square inch (275.8 MPa). The pools have a fiberglass coping approximately 6 inches
(152 mm) wide around all sides, the exterior edge of which is
bent down or depressed to engage the poured-in-place
concrete coping during field installation. One corner of the
pool end is provided with curved steps for access.
A main drein is buik into the fiberglass pool at the deep end.
EMending from the main drain box are the necessary service
Iines to the filter equipment. A gravel sump is provided
beneath the main drain base to colled any ground water or
dralnage from the sand bed on which the pool is installed.
Leading from this gravel sump is a 1'/; inch (38.1 mm) plastic
pipe e#ending to ground level which is utiiized to relieve
hydrostatic pressure by collecting and disposing of ground or
seepage water when it becomes necessary to empty the pool.
The pool is provided at the deep end with an underwater
recessed light pocket and FloodligM. The floodlight and all
electrical apparatus in connedion with the pool are required
to be adequately grounded. All plumbing and electrical work
is required to comply wiih the codes in effect at the
construdion site. .
The pool design requires it to remain full of water at all
times. A permanent sign is to be attached to the plumbing
equipment and is to read as follows: °Notice-POOI is
designed to remain full of water at all times. Pool shell may be
damaged if water level is allowed to drop below the pool
skimmer. Wherl appreciable drawdown is noticed or if it
becomes necessary to drain the pool, contad San Juan
Pools, Inc., or its agents for insWCtions' A pressure-sensitive
plastic sticker will be instatled adjacent to the above sign by
the manufacturing licensee, giving his name, address and

22 Installation:
The pool may be installed without a soil investigation by a
qualified engineer, providing none of the following conditions
are encountered and the site is approved by the building
official: . ,
1. The existence of ground water within the depth of the pool
excavation. 2. The existence of an uncompacted fill in contact with any
portion of the pooL 3. The ewstence of any expansive or adobe-type soils, at or
within the confines of the pool area.

slopes.

5. The location of the proposed pool excavation so that it
would have a tendency to endanger adjacent structures.
If one or more of the above conditions are encountered, the
excavation for the pool snall immediately cease until the
specific conditions at the site have been reviewed and
recommendations made bV a qualified engineer. The
engineer s report of this review and recommendation is to be
submitted to the building official having jurisdiction over the
construction site, and his approval obtained prior to
continuance of the work.
The excavation for the pool consis[s. of removing the
existing soil from the proposed area, utilizing chain-type
screeds to ensure a 6-inch (152 mm) minimum over-
0 wira mesh. 2.3 IdeMlTcatlon:
.excavation at the pool bottom and all sides. The required
drains and plumbing work are installed and a contoured layer
of clean sand is placed in the lower areas of the pool up to a
point at which sloughing would occur. The pool is lhen placed
on this sand bed and iarefully aligned and leveled to preclude
any buckling or irregularities in the fiberglass. Water is
introduced into the pool proper and up to a level
approximately equal with the sand layer. The backfilling with
sand is carefully continued upward, maintaining
approximately a uniform height around the four sides of the .
pool at all times. The sand is consolidated by flooding with
water as the work progresses. The pool is simulianeously
filled with water as the backfilling progresses, maintaining
