FOR ROOF PITCH 6/12 AND OVER: Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS with 6/12 PITCH &

REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with Building Division Policy
BD -18-001 for Balanced Ventilation Systems, or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent.
MIDROOF & SHEATHING: Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an
approved mid -roof inspection, conducted when 25-75% of the roof covering is installed,
prior to final approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the
entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists.
Sheathing and mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the
sheathing must be complete and 25-75% of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required.
LADDER MUST BE SET FOR ALL ROOF INSPECTIONS: A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
COMMERCIAL ROOFS: In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar type roof
coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name) roof
covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

About this Fireplace:
The L38-DF is a fireplace with a linear-style burner. This fireplace can be
converted to both a Top Vent or Rear Vent application, and is currently
available in the models below.
The L38DF is rated for Natural Gas at 26,000 BTU/H (7.62 kilowatts)
Input or Propane at 26,000 BTUIH (7.62 IGlowaks) Input.

How to use this manual:
This manual covers installation, operation and maintenance. Lighting,
operation and care of this fireplace can be easily performed by the
homeowner. However, all installation and service work should be
performed by a qualified or licensed installer, plumber, or gasfitter who
is qualified or licensed by the state, province, region, or governing body
in which the appliance is being installed.
This manual covers all models and unless otherwise specified, the
designation L38DF refers to all models. Sections which are specific to a
particular model are marked with a 411111111110 symbol, plus the appropriate
model number.

Due to its high operating temperatures, the appliance
should be located out of traffic & away from furniture and
draperies.

Warranty and Installation Information:
The Montigo warranty will be voided by, and Montigo disclaims any
responsibility for, the following actions:

Consult your local Gas Inspection Branch on installation requirements
for factory-built gas fireplaces. Installation & repairs should be done by
a qualified contractor.
Installations in Canada must conform to the current CANICGA B-
149.1 and .2 Gas Installation Code and local regulations. If the optional
air-circulating fan kit is installed, it must be electrically grounded in
accordance with CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code Part 1 and/or
Local Codes.
Installations in the USA must conform to local codes, orin the absence
of local codes to the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1-1988. If the
optional air-circulating fan is installed, it must be grounded in accordance
with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the National
Electrical Code, ANSUNFPA 70-1987. See Appendix B for installation

Installing The Fireplace Shell
Thefireplace maybe installed in anylocationthatmaintains properclear-
ances to air conditioning duds, electrical wiring and plumbing. Safety,
as well as efficiency of operation, must be considered when selecting
the fireplace location. Try to select a location that does not interfere
with room traffic, has adequate ventilation, and offers an accessible
pathway for Direct Vent installation. Refer to page 4 - Vent Installation
for more information.

When this appliance is installed directly on carpeting, tile or any
combustible material other than wood flooring, it must be installed
on a metal or wood panel extending the full width and depth of
the appliance.

Installing The Gas Line
The gas line must be installed before finishing the L38DF Fireplace.
Natural Gas requires a minimum inletgassupply pressureof 5.5' W.C.
& a manifold pressure of 3.5' W.C. Propane Gas requires a minimum
inlet gas supply pressure of 110 W.C. & a manifold pressure of 10" W.C.
Provision must also be made for a 1/8" N.P.T. plugged tapping and be
accessible for test gauge connection immediately upstream of the gas
supply controls to the appliance. The fireplace gas connection and the
main operating gas valve is located behind the removable trim at the
bottom of the unit and need only be attached to the gas line with an
approved fitting, as required by the applicable installation codes.
To access the fireplace gas connection the main burner must be
removed as shown below in figure 5a.
" Only use gas shutoff valves approved for use by the state, province,
region, or governing body, in which the appliance is being installed, or
as required by the applicable installation codes.
• Flexible gas connectors must not exceed 3 feet in length, unless it is
allowable within applicable installation codes.

The appliance and its individual shutoff valve must be disconnected
from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing of that
system at test pressures in excess of 112 psig (3.5 kPa).
The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by
closing its individual manual shutoff valve during any pressure testing
of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than
1/2 psig (3.5 kPa).
Note: After gas line is connected, each appliance connection,
valve and valve train mustbe checked while under normal
operating pressure with either a liquid solution, or leak
detection device, to locate any source of leak. Tighten any
areas where bubbling appears or leak is detected until
bubbling stops completely or leak is no longer detected.
DO NOT use a flame of any kind to test for leaks.
Vent Installation
This section covers the installation of direct venting and terminations.
Installation Requirements
in L38DF fireplace is certified for use with Montigo Standard Series (5" / 6")
venting components.

Choosing your vent termination location will help to determine whether
you need to use a top vent orrearventfireplace. Figure 6a, below, shows
typical fireplace locations and the venting options they provide.

Installing The Standoffs
To avoid elevated mantel temperatures, all L38DF gas
fireplaces are required to have the supplied standoffs installed.
The fireplace is supplied with two standoffs. Bend and install these
standoffs on top of the fireplace ensuring that the height of the standoff
maintains a 3-112" clearance.

Flange Extension
Once the fireplace is placed into the rough framed opening, and the
supplied steel lintel is in place, (Part No. 1-38087) (see Figure 2),
the supplied nailing extension must be placed along the top edge of
the fireplace and securely fastened in place to the metal lintel, and
combustible wood framing. Note: The nailing flange extension can be
substituted with a piece of NON-Combustible material of the same
size and thermal characteristics, ie: cement board or equivalent

Top Vent Venting Runs
Forthe L38DFTop Vent, there are two types of installations:A) Through-
The-Wall Installations and B) Vertical (Through-The-Roof) Installations.
A) Through-The-Wall Installations
Before you install any venting, you must determine whether the venting
run will be acceptable. Unacceptable venting can affect the fireplace's
combustion.
The Venting Graph
Measure the vertical height from the fireplace hearth to the centre of
the termination and the horizontal run from the fireplace flue collar to
the wall flange of the termination. Plot on the Venting Graph (Fig. 9a)
with an 'X'.
If the 'X' falls on or above the top boundary of the shaded area, the
installation is acceptable.
Example A: (Acceptable Installation)
If the vertical dimension from the hearth is 108" and the horizontal run to
the wall flange of the vent termination is 180", this would be an accept-
able installation.
Example B: (Acceptable Installation)
If the vertical dimension from the hearth is 48" and the horizontal run to
the wall flange of the vent termination is 72", this would be an acceptable
installation.
Example C: (Unacceptable Installation)
If the vertical dimension from the floor of the fireplace is 60" and the hori-
zontal run to the wall flange of the vent termination is 144", this would
NOT be an acceptable installation.

(PFL-3) will, when extended in a five foot chase, allow for a maximum
horizontal run of twelve and one-half feetfmm the centre of the fireplace

"C" flex sections and "D" rigid sections may be used in conjunction with

Rear Vent Venting Runs
The L38DF, Rear Vent has three possible installations which do not
require vertical lift, all of these installations require that you install the
RHS101 heat shield.
Heat Shield
The heat shield (RHS101) must be used on all installations straight
through the wall, at the point where the vent pipe connects to the
termination. With the heat shield, proper vent dearances can be
maintained. The heat shield is not included with the fireplace.

This letter is to inform you we have had some concerns brought to our attention regarding
the excavation along the south property line of the above referenced address. We have investigated
the concerns and have found then to be legitimate due to the close proximity of occupied residential
properties.
The Uniform Building Code is very specific regarding protection of excavated areas, stating
in Chapter 33, "excavation or fills for building or structures slia[l be so constructed or protected
tliat they do not endanger life or property. " Code also states, "any person making or causing an
excavation to be made to a depth of 12 feet or less below the grade shall prolect the excavation so
diat the soi[ of the adjoining property wil[ not cave in or sett[e."
We must require that the excavated area either be completed and backfilled or provide
pedestrian protected as stated in Chapter 33 oF the Uniform Building Code. This chapter states a
railing constructed of 2x4 material to a minimum of 42 inches in height with one intermediate rail.
This pedestrian protection device will need to be in place and secured no later that August 25,1998
so as to avoid any possible injuries that could result if someone was to fall in the excavated area.
Please note that when the proposed retaining wall is completed all areas more than 30 inches
above grade will require a guardrail be constructed as stated in Section 509 of the Uniform Building
Code.
