Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name)
roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.
Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be
required, the 3rd party inspection report AND THE ORIGINAL PERMIT CARD needs to be dropped
off to the Permit Desk at the City of Wheat Ridge. The report MUST BE SIGNED by the
Homeowner.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if

Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person

ConstrucNon. Please refer to New Construction floor plan.
1. Install new gazden level egress windows in Room 1. The window sills are 42 inches
above the floor. Each side of the horizontal slider is about 24 inches wide and 36 inches
high. The clear opening is slightly less than 5.7 square feet (817 versus 821 square
inches). Since the sill is a couple inches above the outside ground level, I assume the 5
square foot minimum for ground level egress windows applies, ratber than the 5.7 square
foot minimum for basement egress windows. If not, I can modify the window frame
slightly to get the extra 4 square inches.
2. Overframe and insulate the two outside walls. The original walls were plaster over
concrete (up to grade level in some places) and cinder block (above grade level in some
places). Framing is 20 gauge steel2 x 4's on 16 inch centers spaced one inch (nominal)
from the foundation wall. Insulation is R-16 fiberglass batts covered with 6 mil plastic
film.
3. Add closet in Room 1.
4. Add linen closet in hall (5). Remove two studs in the center load bearing wall and
replace them with a 23 inch long header constructed of two 2 x 4's with 1/2 inch plywood
sandwiched between them, glued and nailed. The header bears on 2 x 4 jack studs at
either end.
5. Replace the original door in Room 2(6). Replace the original header with a new 37
inch long header consisting of two 2 x 4's with 3/8 inch plywood sandwiched between
them, glued and screwed.
6. Cover walls with 1/2 inch sheet rock screwed to studs. Screw pattem is 6 inches on
edges and 12 inches in field.
Electrical. Please refer to New Electrical floor plan.
1. Add a new subpanel on the wall outside Room 2 fed from the main panel through a
dual 50 amp breaker protecting 6/3 Romex.
2. Add receptades in both rooms. Boxes aze 4 x 4 x 2 inch steel with external steel 1/2
inch box connectors and 5/8 inch single or dual gang covers. All receptacle wiring is 12/2
Romex protected by 20 amp breakers in t6e new subpanel. Room 1 is fed from an AFCI
breaker.
3. Rewire the lighting circuits for both rooms. Add wall sconces and recessed closet
lights in Room 1 and track lights in Room 2. Lighting circuit wiring is 14/2 protected by
15 amp breakers in the new subpanel.
4. Add two three-way switches to conUrol the hall lights. Wiring is 14/2 and 14/3
5. Add an outside weather proof GFCI receptacle on the outside NW comer of the house
and rewire the existing weathet proof GFCI receptacle neaz the porch. Wiring is 12/2
Romex pmtected by 20 amp breakers in the new sub paneL Foundation penetration is 1/2
inch thin wall EMT.
6. Add a GFCI receptacle for a future inside sump pump. Wiring is 12/2 Romex protected
by a 20 amp breaker in the new subpanel.
7. Rewire the dimmer for the nook light.
8. Rewire the bathroom GFCI receptacles with 12/2 Romex pmtected by a 20 amp
breaker in the new subpanel.
9. Wire the three baseboard heateis and two 220 volt therntostats with 12/2 Romex
protected by dua120 amp breakets in the new subpanel.
10. Provide for four way control of future chandelier over the stairs using 14/3 Romex.
