The proposed house will have a crawl space. At the time of our visit the excavation had been completed. It was dug to a depth of nil to about 4 feet. 1'he soil exposed on the bottom consisted of sandy clay and is similar to that encountered in our borings. At the time, water was standing over most of the bottom. In our opinion the house should be founded on a Type 4 founda[ion consisting of spread footings with a maximum soil pressure of 2,500 psf and a minimum dead load pressure of 800 psf. Footings should be placed on firm, undisturbed soil that is not excessively wet. A layer of gravel may be required to provide a working platform to construct the footings.
