Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an approved midroof
inspection, conducted when 25-75 percent of the roof covering is installed, prior to final
approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the entire roof
when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists. Sheathing and
mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the sheathing must be
complete and 25-75 percent of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are required
to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and water shield
is required. Eave and rake metal is required. A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections. Roof ventilation
is required to comply with applicable codes and/or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent. In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar
type roof coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name)
roof covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.
Roof inspections for ROOFS OVER 6/12 PITCH: 3rd party inspection will be required, the 3rd
party inspection report will be collected at final roof inspection performed by City of
Wheat Ridge. If report is not available the final inspection will not be completed.

Residential Roofing Permit Application
This application is exclusively for new permits for residential roofs and for licensed
contractors only. This type of permit is ONLY being processed online --do not come
to City Hall to submit an application in person. Permits are processed and issued in
the order they are received and due to the volume of requests, time to process
varies and is subject to change. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR
PERMIT IS READY FOR PICK-UP AND WILL BE GIVEN A SPECIFIC DATE
AND TIME WINDOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION. You will be notified if
your contractor's license or insurance has expired, and you may update those
documents at the time you are issued your permit.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in person
at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add redecking) must be
completed in person at City Hall. All other non -roofing permits must be completed in
person at City Hall. The Building Division will be open from 7:30-10:30 a.m.,
Monday through Friday to process these types of requests.

1. FINISHING REQl11REMENT$-PRIMED PRODL':TS
Masonite primed siding is manutactured fram wood ond must
be painted with an exterior coa(ing systam in pccordance
wi[h the tollowing specifications to fuifill sidiny warranty
requirements.
A. GENERAL INFORMATION: Paint performance is depen-
dent upon the quality 2nd quantity ot paint applied, and the
COnditions under which rt is applied. Low quality paint, and/or
~ thinly applied paint, tr.nds to last for a ielatively short time,
resulUng in discolorativn, premature fading, inadequate sub-
strate protoction, and frequent rep3inting, sometimes as
often as every one or two yeArs. Fop quality paint appliod in
suNicient quantity will provicle best performance with mini-
mum maintenance. FollOw the cua?iny manufactureYs roc-
ommendations whon scieciing and ar,plying a paint.
B. SURFACE PRCPARATION: 7he siding sur(2ce nrust be
tree of dust, dirt, mild6w, &nd other toreign materials bofare
painting. Washing with water and a inild detergent will usual-
ry remove dust and dirt. Allow the suriace to dry betore paint-
ing. Contact a painUSUpply storP for recOmmended rneBiods
of removing and controlling mildow. 7he control of mildew
on the surface af paint is a homeqwner mainYenance
responsibility. Masonite wfil assuni0 no responsibillty
for the treatment and prevention ai mildew.
C. PAINT SELECTION: For best results, use satin/somi-
gloss or (ull gloss exterior aaylic lat:ex or a satin/serni-gloss
or fuli gloss exterior oil-base paint. All exposed siding sur-
faces, including the bottom edges, must be well coaTed.
Semi-yloss or full gloss finishes t~nd to pertorm beltei than
flat finishes. Note: Some systems may require the appli-
cation of x designated primer and topcoat combination.

2. Masonite facrory-primed siding must be finished with two
ooats of paint within 90 days afiter installation. I}, due to
unforeseen circum>tiinces, the siding is not painted within 90
days, reprime the siding using an exterior primer that is
spccifical!y recommended for use on wood-based siding and
is compitibie with the topcoat to be used. Use the same
prirtl9r (Ur repalr oP any damage to the original factory-
applied prirner.
3. A TOTAL FlELO APPLIED ORY FILM PAINT THIGK-
NESS OF AT LEtLST 2-1f2 MILS IS REQUIREU ON
MASONITF SIDING. This rBquires the applicatian of two or
more unthinned co;its of paint at the spread rate recom-
mended by tf'ie paint manuiacturei. This may be two top-
coats or, if required by tha paint manufacturer, a primer and
topcoal cqmbination.
4. Most coatinys can be applied with brush, r011er pad Or
spray. The brush, appGCation method tends to apply the most
paint per coar, spraying tsnds to apply the least per coat.
~ 5. Tho siding suriar,e lemperature must not be less than
50°F for 24 hvurs following the apPlication ot water based
painL Paint pPrformance problems can be avoided by not
applying paint in the eveninys of cool spring and lall days
when heavy dews can form betore the surface of Ihe paint
has thoroughly diiec7. Allow at least 2 hours tor the paint to
dry betore sunset. Likewise, painting in ihe morning ShOUId
nol begin until after the dew has had time to eVaporate.
Serious water ab,orptien problems, and major finish failurG
can occur with sorno lalex pairits when applied under these
conditions.

Dear Mr. Odean:
At the time of our visit on September 9, 1997, the underdrain had been
installed. The perforated underdrain was surrounded with gravel. The drain and
gravel was underlain with a plastic membrane and was overlain with lapped rooting
paper. The top of the gravel was 44 to 129 inches below the top of the foundation
wall. A sump was located in the center of the north side of the lower Ievel and was
about 31 inches deep. The invert of the pipe entering the sump was about 144 inches
below the top of the foundation wall. At the time of our observation the sump was
dry.
The drain appeared to be installed substantially in accordance with our
recommendations.
