Dear Mr. Odean: This letter will confirm our visual observations made at an earlier date. We observed the excavation for the subject lot on September 4, 1996. The proposed house will have a basement. At the time of our visit the excavation had been dug to a depth of 4 to 7 feet. The soil exposed on the sides consisted of up to 5 feet of sandy clay to clayey sand fill. The soils exposed on the bottom consisted of moist, sandy clay. These soils are similaz to those encountered in our borings. In our opinion the house should be founded on a Type 5 foundation consisting of piers. The piers had been constructed. Slab on grade floors will have a moderate risk of movement.
