FOR ROOF PITCH 6/12 AND OVER: Midroof & Final Roof inspections for ROOFS with 6/12 PITCH &
OVER: 3rd party inspection will be required for both the midroof and final inspections. The
3rd party inspection report AND THE ORIGINAL PERMIT CARD needs to be dropped off to the
Permit Desk at the City of Wheat Ridge. The report MUST BE SIGNED by the Homeowner.
REGARDING ROOF VENTILATION: Roof ventilation shall comply with Building Division Policy
BD -18-001 for Balanced Ventilation Systems, or manufacturer installation instructions,
whichever is more stringent.
MIDROOF & SHEATHING: Effective December 1, 2014, asphalt shingle installations require an
approved mid -roof inspection, conducted when 25-75% of the roof covering is installed,
prior to final approval. Installation of roof sheathing (new or overlay) is required on the
entire roof when spaced or board sheathing with ANY gap exceeding one half inch exists.
Sheathing and mid -roofs may be called in at the same time, one hundred percent of the
sheathing must be complete and 25-75% of the mid -roof may be complete. Asphalt shingles are
required to be fastened to the roof deck with a minimum of 6 nails per shingle. Ice and
water shield is required. Eave and rake metal is required.
LADDER MUST BE SET FOR ALL ROOF INSPECTIONS: A ladder extending 3 feet above the roof eave
and secured in place is required to be provided for all roof inspections.
COMMERCIAL ROOFS: In order to pass a final inspection of elastomeric or similar type roof
coverings, a letter of inspection and approval from the manufacturer technical
representative stating that "the application of the roof at (project address) has been
applied in accordance with the installation instruction for (roof material brand name) roof
covering" is required to be on site at the time of final inspection.

Official and maybe subject to a fee equal to one-half of the originalpermit fee.
3. If this permit expires, a new permit may be required to be obtained. Issuance of a new permit shall be subject to the standard
requirements, fees androcedures for approval of any new permit. Re -issuance or extension of expired permits is at the sole discretion of
the Chief Building Official and is not guaranteed.
4, No work of any manner shall be performed that shall results in a changeof the natural flow of water without prior and specific approval.
5. The permit holder shall notify the Building and Inspection Services Division in accordance with established policy of all required
inspections and shall not proceed or conceal work without written approval of such work from the Building and Inspection Services
Division.
6. The issuance or granting of a permi hall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any provision of any
applicable code o� ordinance oiPgulation of this jurisdiction. Approval of work is subject to field inspection.

This application is exclusively for new RESIDENTIAL roofing permits and for
licensed contractors only. Permits are processed and issued in the order they are
received. You will be notified if your contractor's license or insurance has
expired. The license and insurance must be current before the permit will be
processed.
For all other requests:
Homeowners wishing to obtain a roofing permit must apply for the permit in
person at City Hall. Revisions to existing permits (for example, to add
redecking) must be completed in person at City Hall. The Building Division
permit counter is open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday to
process these types of requests.

All permits shall be applied for through the Public Works Department. An approved permit is effective for a
period of one (1) year from date of issue and may be renewed. All fees shall be in accordance with those fees
established by the Uniform Building Code or other applicable City adopted Resolutions or Ordinances.
Note: All publ;., improvements, when constructed, shall be maintained (by the respective individuaJ(s) and/or
company responsible for the construction of that public and/or private improvement in the respective
development) on a daily basis, or as needed, such that they are free of mud and other construction debris
tracking from the site. Failure to comply with this requirement wi1/ result in the enforcement of Article 1/,
Specified Nuisances, Section 15-16 (4) of the City of Wheal Ridge Code of Laws.
MINOR GRADING. EXCA V A TlON. AND FILL PERMITS
1. I-56 Cubie Yards; No permit is required for dumping or excavation of earth materials, which do not exceed
50 cubic yards, provided, however, that any fill deposited is on natural terrain of less than three (3) horizontal
to one (I) vertical slope, or such fill is less than three (3) feet in depth and is not intended to support
permanent structures, and in addition, such fill or excavation does not obstruct or otherwise adversely affect
any drainageway. Should any of the above standards be exceeded, or a drainage way be affected, a permit
shall be required under the guidelines for No.2,
2. 51-500 Cubie Yards: Dumping or excavation of earth materials not exceeding 500 cubic yards may be
allowed with a permit approved by the City Engineer. All applications are to be submitted on the appropriate
completed application form and shall be accompanied by the appropriate fee and sketch plan indicating the
following information before the permit will be issued,
A. Location and dimensions of all property boundaries and structures on the site.
R Location and extent of areas to be filled and/or excavated.
C. Location of existing and proposed drainageways, irrigation ditches, etc., and indication of how and where
historic run-off will be maintained on and through the site.
D. Cross-section area to be filled and/or excavated indicating original slope, new slope and depth offill.
E. Statement that indicates the proposed use or purpose for said fill or excavation.
F. Relative elevation of adjacent properties.
G. Erosion control plan showing placement of control devices such as hay bales, etc.
3. 501-10,000 Cubic Yards: Operations in which earth material fill or excavation exceeds 500 cubic yards, but
does not exceed 10,000 cubic yards, may be allowed by a permit issued by the City Engineer after review of
an application and supporting information. The following information shall be submitted with the required
application form:
A. A site plan, prepared and signed by a Colorado registered professional engineer, at a scale of no less than
I inch to twenty feet (I :20) which illustrates the following:
B. Location and dimensions of all property boundaries and structures on the site.
C. Location and extent of areas to be filled and/or excavated.
D. Location of existing waterways and drainage courses indicating any changes. (for a site containing an
established irrigation ditch, a lener of approval from the appropriate ditch company shall be required).
E. Location of existing and proposed points of ingress.
F. Location and extent of existing vegetation, proposed changes in such vegetation and methods of
rehabilitation on site vegetation after earthwork operations are complete.
G. Erosion control plan,
H. Grading plan with existing (dashed lines) and proposed (solid lines) ground contours with contour
intervals of 2 feet and spot elevations.
L At least two cross sections (east to west and north to south) through the site showing depth offill and/or
excavation.
J. A drainage report may be required if site runoff characteristics are changed.
K. Relative elevations of adjacent properties and structures.
L. Statement of purpose of intended fill and/or excavation.
4. Performance Standards: The following provisions shall apply to all Minor Grading, Excavation and Fill
Permits,
A. Rehabilitation: Within thirty (30) days after cessation of filling and/or excavation, rehabilitation for the
site shall have been completed in accordance with the approved plans. Rehabilitation shall consist of
leveling, grading, landscaping or any combination thereof to minimize potential erosion and be acceptable
to the City Engineer.
B. Debris: Debris and/or contaminants shall not be used except with the approval of the City Engineer.
"For the purpose of this Section, the term debris shall have the same meaning as the terms "garbage, trash
or junk" as defined in the Wheat Ridge Code of Laws, Section 15-4."
In no case shall debris or contaminates identified or classified as hazardous waste by local, state or federal
agencies be used as fill in any fill areas within the City of Wheat Ridge.
C. Excavation and/or fill areas shall be graded to facilitate weed control until fmal grades are set and site
rehabilitation and use occur (must be leveled with side slopes not to exceed 3 to 1).

. Per Section 5-45 of the Code of Laws building permits shall be reviewed by the department
of public works to determine whether the proposed construction will require the installation
or construction of public improvements. Public improvements can include curb, gutter and
sidewalk. An escrow equaling 100 percent of the cost of the required public improvements
may be required in lieu of construction of the public improvements. If required, this may
take the form of a condition of approval of the building permit, requiring either the
