requirements and conditions.
Specific Comments and Reguirements
1. Fire extinguishers
The plans do not indicate installation of fire extinguishers and based on the nature of
the business would require at least 3 extinguishers to be installed. Fire extinguishers
shall be installed per comment "B " tinder general requirements below. An approved
portable fire extinguisher shall be provided within 50 -feet of travel distance to any
machine producing shavings or sawdust (IMF CSection 2804.3)
2. Storage height
The maximum storage height is 12-0 feet above the finished floor measured at the top
of the stored products. The maximum permitted storage height shall be clearly
marked on the walls of the storage area by a 4-inch stripe and verbiage "no slorag"e
abo this line " that contrasts the background color. (IFC Section 315.2.5-amended)
General Comments and Requirements
A. Premise identification
New and existing buildings and individual suites shall have approved address
numbers, building numbers or approved building identification placed in a position
that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These
wm�
numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic
numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimurn of 4 inches high with a
minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch. (IFCS'evion 505)
B. Portable fire extinguishers
Fire extinguishers shall be installed where indicated on the approved plans. Fire
extinguishers shall have a minimum rating of 2A I OBC (unless otherwise indicated).
Fire extinguishers shall be mounted at a height of 3 to 5 feet above the finished floor
measured to the top of the extinguisher. (IFC Section 90 )
Portable fire extinguishers shall be located in conspicuous locations where they will
be readily accessible and immediately available for use. These locations shall be
along normal paths of travel, unless the hazard posed indicates the need for placement
away from normal paths of travel. (IFCSection 906.3)
Portable fire extinguishers shall not be obstructed or obscured from view. In rooms or
areas in which visual obstruction cannot be completely avoided, means shall be
provided to indicate the locations of extinguishers. (IFCSection 906)
C. Exit doors
Except as specifically permitted, egress doors shall be readily openable from the
egress side without the use of special knowledge or key. (IFCSection 1008. 1. 9)
E. Means of Egress illumination
The means of egress, including the exit discharge, shall be illuminated at all times the
building space served by the means of egress is occupied. The means of egress
illumination level shall not be less than I foot-candle at the walking surface level.
The power supply for means of egress illumination shall normally be provided by the
premises' electrical supply. In the event of power supply failure, secondary power
supply shall automatically illuminate the means of egress. The secondary power
supply shall provide power for a duration of not less than 90 minutes. (IFC,5ection
1006)
F. Door locks and latches
The main exterior door or doors are permitted to be equipped with key-operated
locking devices from the egress side in occupancies with an occupant load of 300 or
less provided the following requirements are met:
a. The locking device is readily distinguishable as locked; and

b. A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side on or adjacent to
the door stating: THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN
BUILDING IS OCCUPIED, The sign shall be in letters I inch high on a
contrasting background. (IFC Sect ion 1008.1,& )
G. Required inspections
A final inspection by the Fire District is required. Failure of the final inspection may
result in a re-inspection fee of $75.00 and then double the previous fee for every re-
inspection issued thereafter.
Due to limited staffing and other assignments please allow 48-hours to schedule
inspections, Doing so will be helpful in scheduling your inspection when needed to
complete your project on time. Inspection requests must be received by 3:00pm.
To schedule inspections please call (303) 424-3012 and ask for the assigned plan
reviewer noted at the top of this letter and/or on the white Fire District Permit Card.
H. Permit fee and pick-up
he Fire District permit fee for this project is $75.00. The Fire District permit packet
may be picked-up at the AFPD Headquarters located at 7903 Allison Way between
the hours of Sam and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Fire District permit
packet and permit card must be on-site prior to any inspections,
