The proposed solar addition will consist of modules flush mounted to the roof with the ProSolar Roof- Trac equipment, a proprietary mounting system with method of installation that has been reviewed and sealed separately by a licensed engineer. The solar array will add no more than 3 psf dead load. The flush mount system does not impose an additional downforce wind loading (psf). There is one layer of shingles on the roof. The array will be placed on the roof in zones 1, 2 and 3, less than 35 feet high with a slope -14 degrees on a home in a location that has a design wind speed (3-sec gust) of 105 mph with an exposure category C and snow load of 30 psf. Roof attachments will be made at a maximum spacing of 4'-0" along the rails. According to ASCE 7-05 analytical methods for cladding, the maximum uplift on the roof in Zone 3 (worst case) will be 42 psf with a maximum pull of 346 lb per attachment foot. The feet will be fastened to the 2"x 4" (nominal) truss with a 3 1/2"x 5/16" lag bolts with a minimum 3" embedment. The screw will be located in the middle third of each framing rafter. To the best of my knowledge, the existing rooftop has been checked and found to be structurally adequate to support the new solar panels when constructed per the proposed plans. The modules are mounted in two arrays, one on the South facing roof with an 180° Azimuth at a 14' tilt and one on the East facing roof with an 90° Azimuth at a 14' tilt. The array consists of a two strings of (7), CanadianSolar CS5A-180 modules on the South roof and one string of (7) CanadianSolar CS5A-180 modules on the East roof. The array connects into a Xantrex GT3.8 inverter, with a 95% CEC efficiency rating. Power from the array runs in conduit to the DC disconnect integrated on the inverter.
