At least a 1 -inch space is required between the roof sheathing and the insulation at the location of the vent. (IRC R806) 32 Rafters must be framed to a minimum 1 -inch nominal ridge board that is not less than the depth of the cut end of the rafter or to each other using a gusset plate. Hip, and valley rafters shall be a minimum of 2 -inches and not less in depth than the cut end of the rafter. Hip and valley rafter shall be supported at the ridge by a brace to a bearing partition or be designed. (IRC R802.3) 33 Rafters and ceiling joists having a depth -to -thickness ratio exceeding 5:1 shall be provided with lateral support at points of bearing to prevent rotation. All joints of the vapor retarder shall overlap by 6 -inches and be sealed and taped. Ventilated crawlspaces shall be provided with insulation.
