The purpose of the air sampling was to document if the ambient air within the master bathroom exceeded the Maximum Allowable Asbestos Level (MAAL) of 0.01 fibers/cc following the removal of -50 sf of drywall and -50 sf of ceramic wall tiles with adhesive that were not tested for asbestos prior to removal. 2.0 Project Details & Overview of Findings *Sample analysis has been blank corrected BRL = Below Reporting Limit BAS = Below Analytical Sensitivity CBR = Cannot Be Read Goy v 100e rSreat .:. Analyzation Details Sample Analyzation Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) Number of Background Samples Collected 2 Number of Blank Samples Collected 2 Suspect Asbestos -Containing Materials Removed Type of Suspect ACM Quantity Removed Location Removed From Drywall —50 sf Master Bathroom Ceramic Wall Tile Adhesive —50 sf Master Bathroom Sample Details Sample ID Sample Location Avg FlowRate (liters) Time (min) Volume (liters) Fibers/100 Fields Results (f/cc)* BG1 Master Bathroom b — Near the 15.0 36 540 1.5 BRL BG2 Master Bathroom b — Near the 15.0 36 540 1.0 BRL LB Lab Blank n/a n/a n/a 0 BRL FB Field Blank n/a n/a n/a 0 BRL *Sample analysis has been blank corrected BRL = Below Reporting Limit BAS = Below Analytical Sensitivity CBR = Cannot Be Read Goy v 100e rSreat .:. 3.0 Certifications The PCM background air sampling was conducted by Mr. Zack Westfall with DS. Mr. Westfall is a CDPHE certified Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS); having certification number 22529 and a NIOSH 582 certified analyst. DS is a CDPHE certified Asbestos Consulting Firm, Registration No. 14912 and a participant in the Industrial Hygiene Proficiency Analytical Testing (IHPAT) program with laboratory ID No. 188987 maintaining a rating of Proficient. The analysis of the PCM background air samples was performed by DS Environmental's AMS The TEM background air sampling was conducted by Mr. Zack Westfall with DS. Mr. Westfall is a CDPHE certified Air Monitoring Specialist (AMS); having certification number 22529. DS is a CDPHE certified Asbestos Consulting Firm, Registration No. 14912. The analysis of the TEM background air samples was performed by a National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) accredited laboratory. 4.0 Air Sample Analyzation The background PCM samples were collected on 25 -millimeter (mm) mixed -cellulose, ester -membrane filters with a 0.8 -micron pore size and an effective collection area of 385 mm. All filters were pre -assembled by the manufacturer in three -stage, conductive sampling cassettes with extension cowls. A field blank and lab blank were also collected and analyzed along with the background air samples. The air samples were collected at an average flow rate of less than 16.0 liters per minute (L/m) using Thomas high-volume pumps with a minimum volume of 490 liters of air to meet the analytical sensitivity for the NIOSH 7400 analyzation method used to analyze the samples. Flow rates were collected at the beginning and at the end of the sampling period utilizing an airflow rotameter calibrated against a primary -flow calibration instrument. Start times and stop times were recorded for all sampling periods. The PCM samples were analyzed according to the NIOSH 7400 Method. This method counts and identifies "fibers" that meet the counting criteria for the method, which is not specific to asbestos fibers; therefore, all fibers that meet the counting criteria are counted as asbestos fibers. If the total fiber count is less than 0.01 fibers/cubic centimeter (f/cc), it is known that the total asbestos fiber count is also less than 0.01 fibers/cubic centimeter (f/cc). 5.0 Conclusion & Recommendations The analytical results of the background air samples were all below the MAAL. The area can be re -occupied, and no further actions are recommended at this time. 6.0 Disclaimer & Limitations The activities outlined in this report were conducted in a manner consistent with a level of care and expertise exercised by members of the environmental consulting and industrial hygiene profession. Mr. Todd Bernshausen of our office performed a structural engineering consultation at the above referenced address on December 17, 2015. The purpose of this consultation was to review the wood beam framing supporting the roof over the kitchen and dining room areas. It is our understanding that it is your desire to keep the as -built support framing without alteration if possible. The beam members consist of multiple 7 1/4" deep LVL members spanning continuous over 6x6 wood posts as depicted in the attached sketch (Sk- I). A 14" deep LVL member is utilized to supplement the bearing line over the wall opening between the kitchen and the front room. in order to ensure the adequate pertorniance of the exposed wood beam framing, we recommend the following 'finish' modifications: I ) Verify that the two 6x6 wood posts at the kitchen area bear on solid material from the floor surface to the main floor beam below. Install 'squash' blocking beneath the 6x6 posts occurring over the steel beam within the crawl space. 2) Install rotation blocking at beam members resting on 6x6 posts, Use plywood shim filler plates over the posts to expand the LVL width to match the 6x6 bearing post. 3) Provide 2A solid blocking between ceiling joist members and rafter members bearing on the LVL wood beams. 4) Provide metal connectors, consisting of() Simpson 'A35' at all beam to beam connections. Based upon our review, it is our conclusion that the installation of solar panels on the existing roof will not adversely of the structure of this house. lbe° design of supporting members and connections is by the manufacturer and/or installer. The adopted building code in this jurisdiction is the International Building Code, 2012 Edition and ASCE 7- 10. Appropriate design parameters which must be used in the design of the supporting members and connections are listed below: • Ground snow load: 30 psf per the, IBC (verify with local building department) • Design wind speed for risk category It structures: 135 mph (3 -sec, gust) • Wind exposure: Category C, If using documents referencing ASCE 7-05, the design wind speed may be converted to an ASCE 7-05 equivalent of 105 mph, Exposure C. Our conclusion regarding the adequacy of the existing roof is based on the fact that the additional weight of the solar panel,, is less than 3 pounds, per square foot. In the area of the solar panels, no 20 psf ' live loads will be present. Regarding snow loads, it is our conclusion that since the parcels are slippery and dark, effective snow loads will likely he reduced in the areas of the panels. Regarding wind loads, we conclude that any additional forces will be negligible due to the low profile of the flush -mounted panel system, Regarding seismic loads, we conclude that any additional forces will be small. With an assumed roof dead load of 15 psf, solar panel dead load of 3 psf, and of roof area of 40% (maximum), the additional dead load (and consequential seismic load) will be 8.00/0. Jbis calculation conservatively neglects the weight of wall dead load. Because the increase is less than I 01/e, this alteration meets the requirements of the exception in Section 807.5 of the 2012 International Lxisting Building Code. Thus the existing structure is permitted to remain unaltered. During design and installation, particular attention must be paid to the maximum allowable spacing of attachments and the location of solar panels relative to roof edges. The use of solar panel support span tables provided by the manufacturer is allowed only where the building type, site conditions, and solar panel configuration match the description of the span tables. Attachments to existing roof trusses or rafters must N- staggered so as not to overload any existing structural member. Waterproofing around the roof penetrations is the responsibility of others. Electrical engineering is beyond our scope. All work performed must be in accordance with accepted industry-uride methods and applicable safety standards. Vector Structural Engineering assumes no responsibility for improper installation of the solar panels. Please note that a representative of Vector Structural Engineering has not physically observed the roof training of this home. Our conclusions are based upon the review of photographs demonstrating that structural roof components and other supporting elements are in good condition and are sized and spaced such that they can resist s Very truly yours, VECTOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING, LIX Roger T. Since no over current protective devices are required in a typical Solar Edge system, the equipment grounding conductors should be sized based on the maximum power optimizer output current of 15 Amps. NEC 690,45(A) would yield a minimum equipment grounding conductor size of 14 AWG copper, but 120(C) may require a larger size. Equipment grounding of power optimizers can be accomplished using one of two methods as outlined in the SolarEdge installation manual, 1) Power optimizers are typically bolted directly to a metallic support structure and can be grounded through that support structure using stainless steel star washers between the power optimizer and the support structure. The star washers supplied with the power optimizers have been evaluated and listed as a grounding means in accordance with the requirements of NEC Article 690,43(C). 2) When mounted to metallic structures using sliding nuts, or to non-metallic structures, a separate equipment grounding conductor is required. The power optimizers include separate supplementary grounding hardware for this purpose. Because the array circuit conductors are ungrounded, only the requirements of Article 690.35 (C) (1), (2) and (3) apply. Each power optimizer monitors its connected modules and communicates any detected fault to the inverter. The inverter monitors the conductors between the power optimizers and the inverter. In response to a ground fault the inverter will cease to export Do t, olate the faulted circuit, and Safety Voltage The SolarEdge system includes a special safety voltage mode that greatly reduces ,d uces electrocution hazards for installers and emergency response personnel, During installation and commissioning of the system the output voltage of each power optimizer is automatically Ii L t mited approximately I Vdc. The inverter input circuit voltage (equal to the sum of all power optimizer ouput voltages) only Increases to the normal operating voltage when connected to a property operating inverter. The system automatically reverts to safety voltage mode, Ee, 1 Vdo per power optimizer, should the Inverter experience any fault condition, be disconnected from the grid, or if the power optimizers are disconnected from the inverter. Conductor Routing Single conductor cables in exposed outdoor locations within the PV array are vermitted by NEC Article 690.31 (B . Article 690 jr raceways must be run along structural members, must be labeled with "Photovoltaic Power Source" if*04*A- The DC raceway must be at least 10 inches below the roof sheathing whereit is not immediately below the PV array. Note that a type MC metal clad cable also meets the raceway requirement. Grounding The SolarEdge system utilizes ungrounded PV arrays as allowed under NEC Article 690,35. Because the array is ungrounded, the requirements of 690.42 and 690.47 are not applicable and no main system bonding conductors or DC grounding electrode conductors are required, The inverter and The equipment grounding conductors should be sized and installed in accordance with the requirements of Articles 690.45(A), 690.46 and 250,122, @Copyright 2011 SolarEdge Sytem Design and the NEC April 2011, Rev 1.4 Page 8 of 10 Maximum Inverter Inout Circuit Currgnt The maximum inverter input circuit current is limited by the lower of two factors: 1) The output current of the power optimizers is internally limited to 15 Amps continuous, In systems with multiple parallel strings the maximum continuous inverter input current will be limited to the lesser of: a) 15A*n where n = the number of strings in parallel b) The total array power divided by the fixed inverter input voltage of 350 Vdc (240 Vac) or 305 Vdc (208 Vac). 2) The maximum recommended inverter input current is proportional to the inverter power rating divided by the fixed input voltage. Recommended input limits for each inverter can be found in the inverter datasheet, Inverter Inout Overcurrent Protection and lis onnectin Means; The SolarEdge system has been designed to allow the inverter to operate at full power with a maximum of two strings of power optimizers. The SolarEdge inverter does not allow reverse current flow from the grid back to the power optimizers during fault conditions. As a result no overcurrent devices are needed between the inverter and the power optimizers if the PV system is configured with one or two strings of power optimizers. NgLe.- in rare cases where three or more strings of power optimizers ore wired in parallel, fusing will be required to protect the wiring between the power optimizers and the inverter. Because the circuit conductors ore not grounded, fuses would be required in both the negative and positive conductors. The recommend fuse size of 20 Amps is calculated using the 15 Amp continuous output current limit of the power optimizer multiplied by 1.2;5 in accordance with NEC Articles 21 O 19 and 240.4. The SolarEdge inverter is supplied with a listed combined DC and AC disconnecting means fulfilling all requirements of NEC Article 690.35 (A) and associated references to 690 Part Ill, The DC side of the switch disconnects both positive and negative conductors, i.e. all ungrounded conductors. The PV Source Circuits are limited to those conductors between the PV module and the power optimizer. Since every PV module is connected directly to a power optimizer there is no common connection point between adjacent modules. An example of the PV Source Circuit calculations required by the Code is given below for a typical 245 Watt crystalline PV module and a 250 Watt power optimizer: A typical very low temperature correction factor of 1.2 is required for systems operating at ambient temperatures of -36 to -40 *F (-32 to -40 *C). Using this correction factor the Maximum PV System Voltage equals 1,25*Voc = L25*37.37 = 46-71 Vdc. Because this is less than the maximum input voltage of the power optimizer the design is acceptable. Temperature calculations can essentially be eliminated for all modules with a rated open circuit voltage of 48 Vdc or less, i.e. 60Vdc/1.25. Modules with open circuit voltages near 48 Vdc must be evaluated using the temperature correction factors required by NEC Table 690.7 or obtained from the module manufacturer. Maximum PV Current is calculated in accordance with Article 690.8 and is equal to 1.25*lsc = 1.25*8,25 = 10.31 AdC. The power optimizers include an internal current limiting function as Exception 1 of that Article. The maximum suggested module Isc is therefore 10 Amps, use of higher current modules will not damage the power optimizer but could result in reduced energy yield due to current limiting. Note: In areas where irradiance levels orefrequently above 1000 WIM2 we recommend limiting the maximum Isc to 1 OA/1.25 = 8 A to ensure that current limiting, and the resultant power loss, does not occur. @Copyright 2011 SolarEdge Sytern Design and the NEC April 2011, Rev 1.4 Page 4 of 10 For an inverter with a 240Vac output, the DC input to the inverter operates at 35OVdc. Inverters The SolarEdge inverters employ a very high efficiency single -stage conversion, transformer -less topology, The SolarEdge inverter includes an independent voltage control loop that regulates the D voltage at the input of the inverter. When used with power optimizers the inverter operates at a fix.1 DC input voltage. This is another key difference compared to traditional system designs that include MPPT functions in the inverter.
